There are sooo many people that don't have the time to shop, cook, mix, bake foods and goodies for their FIDS. Their hearts are in the right place but their time is limited by family priorities, work schedules, social life, other species of pets or they would just rather buy quality foods and treats already made so they can be playing with their FIDs instead of caretaking.
It is such a pleasure to be able to buy online and have it delivered or go to a bird show and buy in quantity while receiving a discount (in many cases). Plus at the shows you usually find specialty items, like BIRDIEBREAD™ Cones and Muffins, that aren't available in the mainstream stores. The trick is finding quality products and reliable merchants who cater to the individual needs of their customers who, in turn, are willing to pay for quality rather than quanity.
Of course, there are always those people who want the most quanity of a product, like seed or pellets , for the least expensive price, regardless of quality. Some people would also rather chintz on the things that don't show like food and cleaning products, then spend more on toys, cages, playgyms. Others just can't afford to do everything so they alternate and do what they can, when they can do it. Being a vendor and actively involved with FWCAS, for more than 2 yrs ,has been a real eye-opener as to how and why people treat their animals the way they do and their buying habits.
Until last fall, I didn't have a website nor an e-newsletter subscription list. I now service people's fids in 15 states and 2 foreign countries. Soon, I will be moving into specialty pet stores in 4 major cities and am expanding my show circuit, also. It speaks volumes that so many people are willing to pay for a healthy, quality treat to indulge their FID, if they don't have the time or desire to bake it themselves!
