Default Nail Trimming

I noticed that Jack's nails would need a small trimming in the next week or two, so I decided to just try to trim them myself (I have read about how to do it on birds, and I have to clip my guinea pigs and rabbits nails all the time). I didn't think he would let me get the clippers (don't worry, they are meant for birds too) anywhere near him but I figured I would give it a try and believe it or not, he doesn't make much of a fuss at all about it! The second nail I did, he did get scared a little bit and went to bite the finger handle but pinched my finger inside of it along with the handle and it did NOT feel good (I have a boo boo nowlol). But after that he was fine with the whole thing. He just sits there on his perch with a look of "What are you doing?" on his face. He thinks I am trying to get him to step up to, he raises his foot, which helps
I didn't clip much at all off, just to see how he reacted, I am very happy!

I do all our birds' nails myself. My daughter has to help me with some of them. But I think it's so much better when they allow you to do it for them, instead of having to take them somewhere to have it done. I hope your finger feels better soon! If you have any aloe - rub that on it. I've heard it helps take the sting out of a bird bite, but have never tried it myself.

I tried clipping Carmine's nails yesterday, too. If you let them play with the nail clippers first, they usually don't even realise what you're doing. I just had him step up, then snip, snip done.

I can only do my smaller guys nails myself. I use a tiny pair of clippers meant for cats. Fred takes two people and a dremmel, or a trip to the vet. Since I'm by myself right now, I'm gonna have to pay the vet to do it.
