Missing My Eve I think vasa's get easier with age. This is the first year Eve's beak has turned completely dark out side of breeding season, that combined with other factors leads me to believe that Eve is finally at the age of 7 fully sexually mature. Well most parrots become more difficult as the age, but with Eve the opposite seems to be happening. It just occurred to me, That eve no longer wants to be up my behind. In fact for the past several weeks Eve hasn't even attempted to approach me? Unless of course food is involved. He's not mean or unhappy or flighty, just very content to be by himself. I can walk out of the room with out him instantly trying to do something he is not supposed to or without him following me? He just stays on his play stand and happily plays by himself. He flies into his cage by himself for naps, and puts himself to bed at the end of the day. It's like I no longer have a bird? It's funny because I miss him even thou he is still here. He used to constantly be rolling upside down on me, following me around, throwing things, getting in trouble......now nothing. This is very odd, but I guess if I translate it to wild behavior it might make some sense. Only males forage and flock together, females live independent lives, and the males show no aggression to each other. I guess as a group of males there would be no need to do mate bonding behaviors such as preening and physically interacting. But they do enjoy each others company. This is how Eve is behaving, "we can hang together, but there's no need to play and physically touch each other anymore" This is sad to me, but I keep in mind that come breeding season he will be a social and trampy butterfly. |
