Default just wanted to share...

I posted the other day 2 things actually...Merlin has discovered that the kitchen sink faucet is a FABULOUS thing. The past 3 nights I've been letting him drink from it throught the PUR filter. The first 2 nights he stepped up for me and last night while I was clenaing the sink out so he could go to it he decided he couldn't wait for me any longer and flew to me from his cage, landed right on my shoulder. Pretty good aim I must say!!! I heard him take off and from the corner of my eye I could see him coming my way, closed my eyes and hoped for the best.
He just makes my heart smile every time he shows his trust in me.

And the other was that my husband found a parakeet in the road near my house. It was fate and I will bore you with details now that my head has stopped spinning. Fate - I believe!!!!!!

Every day he goes to the gym and he got busy with work and left a little later than usual (he works from home) He finally left, turned the corner onto a semi main road in town and saw this yellow bird making a "controlled" fall from above and land in the lane in front of him. He naturally stopped to take it out of the road and realized it was a parakeet. Picked him up and brought him home.
And my son had an after school program that he was supposed to go to too but "forgot" it was that day so he was home earlier that he was suppsed to be. At that that point my husband walks through the front door and I couldn't see that he was holding something. I asked what he was doing back already when I noticed this little yellow fluff ball in his hand. I took him from his hand and saw he had a bloody nose. IMMEDIATELY called my avian vet and NATURALLY she wasn't in but remembered that I had taken Olivia to Dr. Sedlacek once before. I called him and they told me to bring him right in.
The little birdy was in rough shape. He was 24 grams and barely alive so they needed to keep him to treat him. He told me that he's on the fence at that point, it could go either way. Told me to call back the next morning.
The next morning came and I reluctantly called not knowing what they were going to tell me. They told me he was doing better than the day before, he was perching but not eating on his own. They have been tube feeding him and giving fluids and antibiotics. His weight was down a little bit yesterday afternoon but right now they'll keep an eye on it. They want to keep him for supportive care over the week end. I have yet to call for an update this morning but will do that in a few minutes.
We've posted flyers in stores and will post on telephone poles over the weekend since it's still raining here.
Fingers crossed this little guy pulls through. I've posted on Parrotalert already another site or 2.
Have to run to work now - thanks for letting me bore you! Have a great day!!!

I know all about the "close your eyes and hope for the best" when you have a crazy bird flying straight at you LOL

Thanks for getting the little budgie help! I hope he makes it - sounds promising that he's doing better than when he came in. Poor guy.

First - Congratulations on the Merlin flight & landing progress. It is exciting times when they learn new things & are so relaxed around you.

I can be sitting typing & then i hear the wings beating & then i have a Budgie on my head. He give me his 'hi' chirp & i offer him a way off my head - it always seems so special.

Poor Budgie - hope it all works out - when will you know he's OK?
- so you're going to add him to your flock or look for a home for him? Thanks for looking out for him.

Sally, I am thrilled for you and Merlin. Emma flies at George and I if we get up to leave the room. She is not all that controled. One of us usually ends up with "dry eye"

Let us know how the keet turns out. I hope he is doing better soon, and his owners are VERY greatful for you taking care of yet another escapee.
I watched a yellow keet fly off one day at work. the neighboring house had kids and the keet just took off. It was in the heart of trenton tho.

We shout "incoming" when we hear one fly. Babies certainly cant land when they first try.

Congrats Merlin, what a clever flyer!
Please let us know how the little budgie is doing. Big pat on the back for caring enough to take him to the vet and have him treated even though he wasn't yours. Thank you for caring for the poor lil bubba.

We went to visit our little birdy friend in the hospital this afternoon and he was perching. They've been tube feeding 5 times a day to bulk him back up and he's gained 2 grams since Wednesday. They weighed him before they gave him any fluids or meds so it should be a true weight gain. He looked SOOOO much better than he did 2 days ago. We really didn't think he'd make it through the night Wednesday. They said he's been curious today and much more alert. She said she caught him peeking out from under the towel they have covering him today a bunch of times.
His beak appears to be bruised, it's darker than it should be. He's been picking at the seeds they have offered but not enough to sustain himself that's why he's got to stay for the weekend at least. He tears apart the avi-cake they give him too but doesn't find what he's looking for I guess.

He is not clipped by the way.

I think my son is going to be very upset if his owners turn up. He asked a bunch of questions this afternoon that makes me think he's gotten quite attached to the little guy.
How long do I give them to call before we call him ours? Three weeks with signs all over town? It's a hard call I know. They have to be out there somewhere!

Thanks for being there for me guys!!!!! I've always been good in an emergency, something takes over me and just does what needs to be done but when the dust settles my brain forgets how to function! My husband - not so good in emergencies; BUT he did know enough to bring the little guy home.
