Default Just curious...!

How often do you clean your bird's cage/cages? And does the newspaper/ litter get changed daily?

What do you use to clean the cage/cages? How long does it take you to do this task? What does your bird think of it afterwards?..lol

I know that time has a way of getting away from me, and there are times that I don't clean Tobi's cage often enough, but then I wonder...what is often enough? When I do clean it out, I also switch toys around or change them for others...I'm always rotating her toys...I also reposition her perches.
When she goes into her cage next, she looks around as if to say..."Geez now what has she done with my place"...

I clean the cage every other day, poop and changing the newspaper. I know, I should change it daily but sometimes I forget.....but every other day is my average. I use poop off wipes to clean the cage. It takes me about 5 min per cage. They dont show any reactions...lol.

I too clean about every other day, but I've got four cages to clean so, one day I clean two, the next day I clean the other two, so I suppose you could say I clean every day, LOL! Here's an all natural cleaner that I use and I really like how it cleans.
In a New unused Spray bottle-

3 cups of very hot water
2tbsp. of Baking soda
2tsp. of Grapefruit seed extract

In a measuring cup, use 1 cup of very hot water, mix in the baking soda and the GSE, until completely dissolved.
Add the remaining 2 cups of hot water in the spray bottle.

I hope you don't mind giving you this recipe, it works really good for me.

i scrub the grates daily. artemis makes the scrubbing noise along with me some times, lol. i use a solution of GSE and water to do the cleaning. papers are normally changed every other day. a lot of out of cage time means poop mostly on the play gym, which i clean every night.

jun, you can get GSE at health food stores, but i get mine on ebay...much cheaper. it's super concentrated, a little bottle will last you a long time.

I was told to use vinegar when I take a part the cage and wash everything down, or is that not a good thing? I do make sure that it's totally dry before Tobi goes back in her cage. I try to change her newspaper every few days, but some times it might be longer if I lose track of when it was last changed..

The newspaper in the cage that gets pooped in gets changed at least every second day or daily depending on how much poop. A lot of the poop is outside the cage on the gym. The cage gets taken outside a hosed about once a week. The cage that does not get pooped in gets changed once a week as they have other mess that needs cleaning. My aviaries get swept daily and cleaned with hosed and virukill about once a month.

I use vinegar. I clean the cages twice a week and fresh paper daily. On warmer days, the cages go outside for a hosing down.
