Default Jim's Good Idea! It worked!

Awhile back, a friend gave me a hanging perch that they no longer used because they bought a new one with branches, chains, etc. I really wanted one of those also but, at the shows, even the smaller ones were about $80-$100 and so I've been waiting... I was excited to get the pvc one and it was the same night I got Shrek and Fiona. I already had strong hooks in the rafters on my porch for heavy plants so I was able to hook this pvc hanging perch up right away.

After putting the fids on it several times, I noticed that Shrek always stood in one place. Fiona didn't really like it; she couldn't seem to grasp the bars well and the tiels wouldn't stay on it either. Hmmmm.

That's when I noticed that Jim had a pvc set up on his porch wrapped in brightly colored tape in his pics and his fids were all over it, although not at the same time. So Jim told me it was "vet tape". So I called the vet-the office gal told me she uses it on her horses and to get it from the local feed store less than a mile from my house! It comes in bright flourescent colors and is very inexpensive so I got two rolls and here is the result the first day!

Thanks, Jim!!

Gotta love vet wrap! We use it a lot on slippery bird toy surfaces, here. We find it's much cheaper (and you get more color variety) to purchase at feed stores than in the pharmacy aisles at department stores! What's with that "white person" skin color-only thing, anyway? *grins* I'd much rather be wrapped up in hot pink or deep purple :-).

we use it for the play rack and other smooth surfaces so the fids have some grip - found it fairly affordable in all colors too

Couldn't you do some of the wrapping with sisal rope as well? Just another possibility for changing up the surfaces.

I use it for all of Ollie's PVC stuff. Sisal rope could definitely be used...but it's so easy to wrap the Vetrap, it's cheap, and after a few weeks when it needs replaced- it's really simple to do!

Aha, Camille, you need to post more pictures of Ollie on his PVC stuff! I finally tried the tiels on the new gym yesterday and it was a hit with everybirdy!

OK, as usual, Ladybird was the brave one and went first.

Then, after a misting and some bribery, the boys came over.

Then it was Fiona's turn to join the party...I was so pleased to see how well they all got along-of course, I didn't leave them alone.
Then Fiona moved up and Shrek hung out on the gym in the sun after his bath. Charley liked his perch just fine. Ladybird and Cha-cha decided to go play on the other gym.

Gini, I use the tape on my old pool towel rack made of pvc. Makes a great perch and, you can hang toys on it as well.

This is really cool stuff-both Shrek and Fiona are much more secure in their footing on that gym. Ladybird likes it also. I am beginning to think that Shrek has some arthritis in his feet and I'm going to get him a soft perch in addition to the natural ones and dowels he has now. He doesn't care for the cement one at all. What else can it be used for?
