Default Jean's babies?

My roommates just came back from a bike week (btw I have 2 jobs in PA now heh) and turns out, there's a female sun conure living on Long Island, who'd like a boyfriend.

I'm not giving Jean up but it's come to asking me if Jean wanted to breed with said lady that way he'll have someone to keep him company into old age. This thought process seems to work for me, a father son/daughter relationship would be pretty cool. Here's the problem:

I am fully aware of how hard it is to introduce/breed for someone who has no experience, though Ross, the owner of the female seems to know what he's doing, I don't know if I could live without Jean for a few months because I want him there with the female throughout the entire process, and I want Jean to choose the kid that comes home with him through how he behaves with all of them.

Also, what about the other babies? I thought about that too, and I know how you all love birds...so if we did go through with this they'd be Free to Good Home + Gas coverage if I have to drive within 300 miles to drop the baby off to a Parrot Chatter member. I'm not a breeder, and while yeah the money would help with college, I just would like them to have homes.

That said, that's really all that's going on with me.

Data is as annoying as ever, and Jean just watches.

Oh one last thing, I adopted a dog, but he won't be coming to live with me just yet, he's a 4-5 year old abused belgan shepard my friend found people kicking and burning cigars into. His name is Jack, I can't wait for him to come home in a few months.

Tinna, am I understanding you correctly, you want Jean to visit a female for a few months, breed, raise babies, then bring Jean and a baby back home?

Yes, I am considering it. I mean too I still need to check and see how big a clutch they generally lay to be sure I can find enough people who would want the babies after first before I even go near the chance of him going near a female I don't want more babies in a shelter, and my room mates did just let me get a dog. This would be like a winter/spring set of babies.

Tinna birds don't breed indiscriminately the way dogs or cats do. They have to bond to a mate. Once they bond, that bond is lifelong.

I don't want to cause hurt feelings but this plan can't work. A bird like a sun conure mates for life. If Jean was a ringneck this plan could work but he is a sun conure.

Assuming that Jean even likes the girl and would be prepared to bond, breaking this bond afterwards is extreme cruelty. Either one of them may give up and die of a broken heart afterwards. I know this because I recently lost a sun hen and I thought her mate would die also. It will probably take a year to make a bond in the first place anyhow. If you truly desire to breed Jean it would be best to find him a girl of his own choosing that he can grow old with. It would be the same as you getting married, having the most incredible dream honeymoon never to see your husband again, ok you get the baby conceived on the wedding night.

My story ended ok since Beast the male decided to incubate and raise his baby. Nemo the only baby, a male is now company for Beast. I have not even tried to find Beast a new wife as I know the chance of repairing him is very slim.

ah alright, well dang, there are 4 suns at the petshop down the road, no one's bought em they're all 2-3 years old but the one there that is single doesn't like Jean, he/she fluffs up and bangs his head on the glass each time I pass his cage and Jean's a sissy. But they are a steal for 350$ a piece...maybe closer to winter I should try?

Yes a better plan, but fluffing up and banging the head probably means invitation to war. If Jean sees one he likes he will lean off your shoulder to get closer without getting off you. Is there one that shows and interest in Jean? I am not actually suggesting taking Jean to meet birds in pet shops since the risk of sickness is high.

Oh theres glass between em, no touching, yes Jean runs under my hair and cowers there. The female and Male though in the upper cage don't go after him, my concern is though is the owners said they performed some bonding behavior the year before, they put a nest in and everything but they never had babies or anything so he didn't consider them "Bred" or bonded. So, I'm thinking I'm going to take the female from the upper cage because she doesn't display angry with him. The one I'm fairly sure in the upper cage is male does open his beak and shift his weight side to side. Should I get her?

Tinna, if you truly love birds, please don't even consider buying a bird from a petstore. It just perpetuates and increases the huge overpopulation problem we have with birds right now in USA. There are, literally and without exaggeration, thousands of birds that need a good home and there are lots and lots of conures in that bunch because conures are one of the birds most given up due to their screams and their demand for attention. So, please, I beg you, do a little research and look around (petfinder.com, local bird clubs, local bird rescues, etc.), I am sure you will be able to find a female that clicks with your Jean and you will be doing a real good deed. Rescuing is very, very rewarding.

Bea has an excellent idea. It is unlikely that a sun will breed in a pet shop, so no eggs does not mean not bonded. A sun will breed in a safe place like a living room among flock they trust. Also while a sun can breed at 2 this is unlikely they mostly closer to 4 before real breeding as opposed to the play acting they do before.

But, I dont think breeding is your primary concern so even another male that Jean likes will be quite fine as a buddy. A female is better, but not the only choice. Just think there is another sissy sun out there just for Jean. Peanut's best friend and the bird he does his bonding with is a male.
