I've tried the rescue circuit, I got Jean as a rescue off a classified site, my new dog used to get cigars burned into it's hind quarters and beaten (belgan Shepard I'm gonna go get him in the fall since he lives in Maine) Data is the only pet I have I bought from a store and I bought her to keep Jean semi company but she likes to escape from her cage, and go pick fights with Jean so they're seperated across the room from each other.

I also don't need an abused sun who's going to go after my already sissy baby. Data, though smaller, if like I leave the room sometimes tries to get at him and Jean will cower from her as I rush over to remove her from his presence. Data's getting a partner as soon as I have time to go back up to NY and I will be getting her partner most likely from the same petstore, Birds Unlimited. I trust the owner to know how to pair her up. I don't like going through conventional channels for pets because lets face it I have 2 jobs, and school. Somehow in there my birds get about 35 hours of attention each week with 38 hours of work and 18 hours of school. (5 hours a day with bird time) and the prices some of those adoption websites ask are no better than the petstores and at this time in my life I have no time to rehab another bird for Jean.

I am sorry but somebody sold you a bridge. Nobody, but nobody, knows how to pair up psittaformes. They truly fall in love with each other and nobody can predict which bird will like which. You can force a mating by isolating them from any other stimulus, giving them high protein food, providing a nest box and making the days real long but that is not 'knowing', that's exploiting.

If you don't want to rescue, it's your prerogative, but be careful about not considering his feelings when pairing him. It might backfire.

You have been given a lot of excellent advice. Unfortunatly, I don't really have much to offer you. I do want to share an experience I had over vacation. We visited a caique breeder and boy, who would have thought the work she puts into them! I mean, these aren't your scrawney, immature babies. They are all very healthy and well cared for. Even if it was on a hobby basis, are you prepared to wake up every few hours to handfeed? Are you prepared to spend the money on everything those babies need? Are you prepared to wait for months for the right home for each of them- purchase cage(s), food, toys, etc? Do you really want to give up Jean's pet quality? Why would you want to breed?
