Question Introducing new puppy.

Hi there. We will be bringing home our new 8 week old rotty next Friday and I am interested how you all have introduced your birds to any new pets? Zakiya is still just a baby so I am hoping they will get used to each other relatively quickly. My biggest concern is her being fearful of the pup and starting to pluck or scream or exhibit other stress related behaviors. I'm hoping where she is so laid back as far as new experiences and situations, that it wont be so bad. Any info and tips on how to make it go as smooth and comfortable for both of them would be greatly appreciated! I have already had pups "bedroom" & toys set up in livingroom so Z has seen those for 2 weeks. Heck, she helped assemble it! LOL Thanks in advance!

My only advice would be to take it slow and easy. You know how rambunctious and forward puppies can be, I'd want to make sure that Zakiya feels safe. At first, I would make sure that the puppy can be seen at a distance, but can't get too close to her. Then you can take your cues from how she reacts to the pup. My birds really take very little notice of our dog, but he's pretty laid back. Same thing goes for the pup, you have to take your cues from how he reacts to Zakiya. If he seems fascinated with her, try to distract him and reinforce that the bird is off limits.
