I had to go to the bird store yesterday to get some food and a new dish for mango. I should know by now that it's a dangerous place for me to go. The lady who owns the shop takes in as many unwanted birds as she can. Many of them are half naked from plucking or have some issue or another. My heart just goes out to them and I just want to take them all home. I fell in love with an Alexandrine Parrot and now I think I'll have to get one. I just love the noises that she made and she was just so sweet and cuddly. I left without her but haven't been able to stop thinking about her. I've already been thinking about how I could re-arrange the furniture to make room for another big cage! Now I have to sell my husband on the idea!
LOL...I know what you mean. I fell in love with a Cockatoo at a store a couple weeks ago. I already know that a 'too is out of the question because our neighbors are too close and my husband wouldn't be able to stand the squawking. I could rearrange the cage so the neighbors could MAYBE not hear the 'too but the husband thing...oh well...if I didn't have a husband, I'd have that 'too...and probably half a dozen other birds too.
I have two U2s and my neighbors are close... they say the birds dont bother them... however my babies don't squawk very often two times a day at most some times they will go the whole day without making much noise... (hope I aint jinxed myself) ...
Totally know about the issues of wanting to buy all the birdies one sees. I have done lots of mental gymnastics on rearranging the apt & our life style. That usually puts too much cold water on the idea. Trouble is the bird in my head doesn't go away as easily. I end up wishing we had a bigger place or an aviary.
One big deterrent for me - is wondering if I can offer the quality of life they require - am I being selfish? - will it be just another bad experience for them?
So I try not to go to stores with birds or any pets. Now if I could just stay off the rescue sites. There's this dog or 2 that just are too adorable.......
My heart goes out to you and all those poor animals/birds.
Pet stores here are not a problem. We only have PetSmart and their birds are on hold still and over priced.
Bird fairs are my problem. I only go to one a year but....
And it is coming up next month. Hopefully I can resist cause I really don't need anouther bird I need to spend more time and money on the ones I have. Which is why I may not go this year even though I should cause it is the local bird club doing it and I should go help out. But I have to think of the birds I already own before I think about the bird clue.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
PS Let me know how you talk hubby into it I have been hinting for a new puppy. lol
