Default I'd like your opinion..

I'm thinking about adding a new addition soon. I just have one budgie right now. But I don't know what kind to get! Price doesn't really matter to me, it's just choosing a bird that would be perfect.
I really like conures but I've heard they are extremely noisy. They seem so sweet though. But I don't want their noise to be an issue with the rest of my family.
I've also thought about a cockatiel. They also seem very sweet and I don't think they are too noisy. (??)
My third choice would be another budgie. I love them too!

I'm thinking that if I don't get a budgie and get another kind instead then my budgie will still have a strong bond with me. I've heard that if you have more than one budgie that they will get attached to each other and not really want to bond as much with humans, which makes sense.

However if I got a cockatiel or conure then it would be in a separate cage than Pearl (my budgie). She would still be able to talk to it and everything and it would give her company but she would still have her own space. Or is this bad?

Please help me..which kind would be best?

I don't know much about conures, but the one thing that sticks out in my mind about them is that they are LOUD.

Tiels are great little birds. They have so much personality. My tiel loves to get head scritches, is constantly makes kissing noises, says Hello, Pretty Bird, Good morning, and does lots of different whistles including the Looney Tunes Theme song.

You definitely want to keep different species in separate cages. They would also need to be supervised when out together. There is no guarantee that the 2 of them would ever get along.

I'm sure Sarah (svolk) will chime in soon about this. She has both a tiel and a budgie. She could tell you a lot more about what it would be like!

Good luck on deciding!!

Tiels are absolutely wonderful birds and are very family oriented. Not all conures are loud - the green cheek conures and others in the Pyrrhura (sp) species are not as loud. They are siminlar in size to a Tiel, but have the conure personality. you might also look at quakers, ringnecks, lovebirds, parrotlets and Caiques.

Each one is different so you will have to read up on the personality of each one and ask questions to see which one will fit you the best. We have owners on here for each of these birds so they should be able to help you out with anything specific that you want to know.

Thanks for all the information!
I'll keep doing my research and check out some other breeds too.

The reason I mentioned the sun conure is because the one at my pet store was so tame and clung to the side for attention. He wasn't scared at all.
I thought he was so sweet, but then heard about the noise that they make. I'm still not sure.

The green cheek conure was the same way, a little bit less tame though. These birds can be tamed, right?

And the cockatiel did the same as the other two, but was a little bit shyer yet.

Of course they are all going to be shy, but I willing to put the time and effort in to train whichever one I choose.

These were the only breeds my pet store had, including budgies. They also had finches and other birds which you cannot interact with, which I am not really interested in although they are pretty.

I will probably be getting one from that store, unless I find one nearby to adopt that is a breed that the pet store doesn't have, or unless I find one that I just really like and choose to adopt.

Green cheek conures and their mutations are great birds and are much quieter than the suns, jendays, nandays, blue crowns, cherry heads and the like. Caiques are also great birds, too! Do your research and don't impulse buy. Spend some time looking around until you are sure you have found the right bird to join your family.

I don't consider my conures loud. (cinn green cheek and a yellow sided black capped) Their voices are no where near the level of a sun conure. They are both cuddly and very acrobatic, making them fun to be around. Our female tiel is very quiet - hardly ever utters a sound. But it may just be her personality - she's not into playing as much as the other fids either. But she loves to be cuddled and scritched and hang out with us. Our male tiel is noisy in the fact that he chatters constantly all day long. He's just a happy guy and is always talking, chirping and making noise! He plays much more than our female - but isn't into the cuddling as much as she is.

Your best bet is to keep researching, meet as many different birds and species as possible and see if a certain one catches your attention!

I just LOVE tiels, and think they are the perfect bird.
They are great family birds, playful, loving, and sweet. I had several teils and they played (supervised) with my budgies all the time. They had a big playpen they would all sit on, and actually the budgies were more aggresive then the teils ever were.

Lisa is right, Tiels are wonderful birds, I love all 9 of mine! But Budgies are more agressive and will pick on a Tiel so you can't keep them in a cage together.

My Conures are VERY loud! I have a Nanday and a Mitred. I have heard that Nandays and Suns are the loudest. I visited some Suns at the petstore recently and I thought my Nanday was alot louder, but maybe he wasn't screaming his loudest. But I am used to noise and some my Conures don't really bother me. Of course they don't scream all the time, but they scream daily. They are usually very vocal in the morning and my Nanday calls to me when I leave the room. They are often rehomed due to their noise, so you definitley need to make sure that everyone in the house is aware and is prepared to deal with it. But then again there is no gaurantee that any bird won't be loud or a screamer. GCC are not known as much for their noise. Besides the noise issues they are VERY loving and affectionate birds. My Nanday loves everyone! He loves to turn over on his back and take naps on me. He hangs from one foot from his cage, lol. And he is a 100mph most of the time! He loves to play!

I also have a female cockatiel and she is very quiet. Just a few twirps now and then. But she is an absolute sweetheart! Not as cuddly as my Conure, but she came from a bad home so I think that has alot to do with it. She loves to be on my shoulder all the time! And everytime I go up to her she puts her head down waiting for scritches. I just love her to pieces!

If you feel like the cockatiels or GCC in the petstore aren't as tame look around for some breeders in your area. Not only are their babies usually alot more tame and used to being handled, but you might get a price break too. Good luck! I hope you find the right bird for you!
