Smile Have You seen this site???

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this site or ordered from this site, it's called "Parrotnutz". It's got a lot of great foods and treats that are made from scratch. I haven't tried them, but was courious if anyone here has and what they thought.

Yes, it does look good but they just use words like 'healthy' or 'wholesome' not 'certified organic' or what sources they use for their material and they do use a lot of dried fruits and veggies so, most likely, there are loaded with pesticides and treated with sulphur as all inexpensive dry produce is.

Baking birdy bread or muffins or making gloop does not take that much time and they are actually pretty easy to make so why risk feeding your birds something that you don't know what's in it when you can feed them organically grown and naturally dried stuff for the same kind of money?

By reading their ingredients page, it would appear that many of their ingredients are in fact certified organic. They also mention "No artificial preservatives or fillers", and caution "The lack of artificial preservatives, chemical additives and fillers is what separates ParrotNutz Parrot Treats from store-bought treats. Therefore, please freeze upon arrival and defrost as needed."

Sounds like a fairly responsible company to me. Naturally, everyone needs to do their own research and seek their own comfort level, but based on the information they provide, I don't see anything close to a red flag.

Yes, they do say 'MANY of the ingredients are certified organic' but they don't say ALL the ingredients are USDA certified organic'. If you have one bad thing in there, all of it is bad. What good is it to use organic wheat flour if you are also going to use sulphur-treated dry fruit that were sprayed with carcinogenic pesticides?

Everybody has different standards. I am very picky about what my birds eat. Nothing with pesticides, preservatives or any other kind of chemicals go into them, period. If I have a doubt about anything, they don't get it because I believe in 'better safe than sorry'. And, in this case, it's not as if the alternative is so very onerous, you are just saving yourself 15 minutes of work.

It looks like a great site! I am picky as to what my birds eat, but it sounds like these products are fine. Personally, it would be easier for me to order it because it comes right to my door (can't drive yet). But I would email the company to see if the fruits are sulfer treated first, etc...

Thanks for taking the time to read my site pages....a little birdie or 2 emailed me questions about my products so I thought I would fly on over and grab a perch and chat awhile. I do not have a lot of time to post as I am not a big company.....I am chief cook, shopper, chopper etc.
I hope I get to "know" you all and please feel free to ask me any questions related to my foods or any questions on feeding our parrots as this is a subject very dear to me.
As far as the ingredients I use....all my flours are certified organic, most of my fresh produce is organic but I cannot call it "certified" organic because when it comes from local growers, who are pesticide free, they do not have certification which is a whole process to go through. And there are non organic vegetables that are pesticide free these days<smiles>
ALL my dehydrated vegetables are sulferated free and most of my fruits are also....but a few do have sulfer added by the company. These are only in a few of my dry mixes, never in my fresh baked goods though.
I wanted to clarify these points,as I do have a web person who writes my copy and I do not crack the whip on her very often......LOL
Personally I am extremely picky what I feed my birds also! They are my best taste testers.
BTW, Anna Bird from the NY Bird Club has asked me on many an occasion to please come over to NYC and sell my products at meetings.....I chose not to "sell" my wares, rather they sell themselves.
As I say on my site Word of Beak is my best advertisment.....so folks...just ask away and I will gladly chat and answer any and all questions.
Actually I am glad this forum was pointed out to me and I hope i can contribute as time permits

Beatrize.....you are hired!!! If you can do what I do in 15 minutes please come on over to my house....sorry I couldn't resist
I readliy say I am not for everyone.....I am for the person who wants to sit and play with their birds and get foods delivered. I am a very personal baker and do much custom work also. While you are sitting and playing I am out shopping chopping, baking etc....and my time is very valuable IMHO.

Welcome to Parrot Chatter Adriane, it's great to have you with us! Thanks so much for stopping by and expanding on the info on your web pages, it's very much appreciated. I have a 20'ish cranky old male DYH rehome by the name of Chico, and we have several Zons among us, so drop by the Amazon forum and tell us about your trio. Lots of Macaw folks as well, and I know they'd love to hear about Jade, Roxy, and Maxi the velcro Scarlet lap macaw (I love that!). Oh, by the way, we love to see photos, so if you get a chance, pop us some pics of your babies!
