Default Hard Decisions...

I cam across a female eclectus on Craigslist (I have been trolling there for that reason) who is eight years old. She sounds like a sweetheart, letting you give her scritches and cuddles. She really sounds like my bird. She is $600 with cage and toys, and I don't know how big everything is or how suitable. Anyhow, she has been passed around many times. First with a couple for a few years, then went to a home with 3 elderly women who smoked inside, and had 2 other parrots and 3 dogs. And now her newest owner is sadly having to rehome her because she knows she isn't getting the right amount of attention.

Well, as many of you know, a female eclectus is my dream. I have wished and begged for one for years, and now I have found one that needs me. However, I don't have all the money. I just went and spent it on Echo, and so it is either I re home one of my birds to get this one or pass her up. Ireally and truely don't know what to do. The other person who interested in her is retired and the owner is giving her my contact information in case it doesn't work out.

I am secrectly praying that this bird hates this lady just so she can have the possibility of going to me, but I am still stuck. Any ideas of how I can get this bird besides giving Echo back or re homeing Harley, which neither of these are going to happen.

I went thru a similar thing not long ago when Kelly brought up re homing Benji to make a little room. Don't do it. If you are a bird lover like the rest of us here I am willing to bet the guilt would eat you alive. I mean I started crying just thinking about Benji not being here. We ended up with Cricket anyway to boot!

I second what Jim said, I would die at even the thought of giving up one of my fids just to get a new one! See if you have some things you can sell, ask the lady who owns the ecky if she will consider lowering the price to help her get a good home, maybe someone near you is looking for an ecky? That way you would be able to see her and know she is in a good home without having to re-home a fid you already have if you can't raise the money?

What they said. I would only add this: You have to be realistic as well. If you have to really scrape just to get enough to get this bird, chances are this may not be the right time. Do what you can, sure, but I'm a believer in "if it's meant to happen, it will happen". Personally, I would never rehome just to make room or raise money for an addition, but that's just me.

I agree. However, I would certainly talk to the owner, make sure they know you are committed and would be willing to do extended payments while providing a loving home. If they don't urgently need the money (you never know with CL), they might take the option to be sure she has the best. If it wasn't meant to be, try to be patient. There are a lot of fids looking for forever homes out there.

I agree, Nate, that if it is meant to be, it will be. Putting yourself in a financial deficit can be stressful. Consider the financial possibilities of any vet bills also. I, too, could never rehome any of my birds to get another.

I agree with everyone else.

If it's not right...it's not right. Maybe the other woman can see if she can handle an ekkie, on a trial basis...if it doesn't work out you could be thenext choice, there by leaving you room to get the money.

Thanks you all. I was up till 2 AM crying about what to do. I could never give Echo or Harley up. They are like my children.

Unfortunatly for me, I play my life with a lot of emotions, and thinking of haveing an ekkie, well, thats my dream. For as long as I have waited for the 'right' one, it seems like there are a lot of options open for me at the moment. I just feel so sorry for the bird... *Sniffle* life is so unfair when you don't have a slush fund...

I agree with everyone else, and I think you do too. You could never give one of them up, that would be really unfair to them. If a female Ekkie is your dream then start saving up, working odd jobs here and there. It might take a year or longer, but eventually you will have enough to start really searching. If you do it this way the whole experience will just be better, you won't have to stress about money or rehoming, all your bases will be covered. Good luck with your decision, I know it is hard not to feel for every bird that needs a new home.

I agree with what everyone here has said.

I have a friend who bought something off Craigs list.

She did not have the money but did a promisary note with the owner and they worked it out by monthly payments.

I dont know but it is a thought.
