Default Grapefruit Seed Extract (G S E)

What are your thoughts on this product? I actually have been using it for years and I love it. My water smells as fresh when I get home from the store as it did when I first drew it, despite the "stew" that has been made by the fids with their pellets and other foods. Prior to using it, the bowls would smell like a fish tank and I worried about bacterial infectons.

I just hung up with a birdie friend of mine, and we were discussing it. So, I thought I would post to get everyone's opinions on this.

I use two drops in 16 oz. of water.

I was just thinking about this and would like to hear what everyone's opinion is on it. I've never used it.

GSE is a great product and grapefruit seeds themselves have antibacterial/antibiotic properties.

Whenever I use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice for BIRDIEBREAD, I leave some of the seeds in. It's good for birds to eat grapefruit seeds but not orange seeds.

I wonder if it is possible to make your own GSE?

I have a bottle of GSE that I use when I clean cages. I was putting it into their water until I got ACV. I was never sure how much GSE to put into the water, so I just quit using it.

Ginich......Would you by any chance know exactly why it is not good for our birds to eat Orange seeds? When I do give oranges, I never pick out the seeds, haven't noticed any of the birds chewing on them though or any ill effects over the years.

Camille -I use two drops to 16 oz of water, which is usually the size bowls that come with medium to large size parrot cages. For the smaller bowls, I would use one drop.

We use GSE to clean with, It works great, is non-toxic, WORKS VERY WELL, and is cheap. One little bottle lasts an eternity, or so it seems. I mix our cleaning solution of 45-50 drops in a large squirt bottle. In my opinion it works better than Poop-Off, and smells much better.

ever taste it. YUCK. lol I add one drop to 3 cups of water (daily amount) when I use it. The birds don't drink as much water with it in the water. When I add aloe it spawns water bowl bath time!! lol

Hmmm. I never noticed any difference, although I have been using it for years. My Ekkies don't drink much anyway. But the macaws - as soon as I give them their fresh water, I hear MMMMMMMMMMM

Another product us poor Aussies are deprived of! It's on my list for nest trip to the States, maybe they will have it in South America.
