Default Frozen Mac Nuts?

i had initially frozen my supply of mac nuts but then majbirds (i believe) warned me about them retaining moisture and getting moldy. well, i was hoping i pulled them out of the freezer in time but i don't think i did. when i cracked some of my supply open (with a vice grip!!) they are rubbery on the inside. no mold, but no crunch either. so i am fairly certain i have a completely ruined stock of mac nuts. and also, none to feed ivy until i can get more in the mail. AH! i am hoping whole food will have some but i don't know...

what do you think about the "rubbery" nuts? should i just toss them? do you think they would be safe until i can get a new supply? i could just KICK myself for putting them in the freezer, i thought it would help keep them fresh!

I would not take the chance of anything being moldy! We store our mac nuts i a dark cool closet. We buy our macs 50lbs at a time but we have more than one bird that eats them.

I put all nuts and seed in the freezer for a couple of hours. This reduces the bugs & worms.

i just ordered a new supply, i will store them the same way you are. and good idea on not taking any chances, it's not worth it. hopefully the new ones will come quickly. i need to get a cracker for them too!

You can get mac nuts already shelled at some of the health food stores. You, of course, would have to get them unsalted. That may get you through until the others arrive.
