Default Flaky Beak

Jack has a flaky beak (its not over flaky, it just has the flaky look to it) and someone told me a little while ago that there is a product you can buy which makes their beaks look like a baby birds beak, all nice, smoothe, and perfect. Do you know what the product is called? Is there any other way to make the beak look less flaky?

Why do you want to make it look less flaky??? I personally don't recommend putting anything on them for apperance sake.Offer him more toys to destroy and he will keep it in fine shape himself.

Oh and one more thing, I noticed that as birds get older, their beaks start to loose that pefectly smoothe beak, my question is when do their beaks start to change into the older beak look? Jack is only about 16 months old and his beak already looks like this, is it normal? Take a look at his beak

Looks like a perfectly ornery B&G to me there.
I too freaked out a little bit when we got Ruby (CAG) and parts of her beak flaked off. I thought, just great with my luck I have the only Grey in the world that has Beak leprosy.
I don't think you have anything to worry about there but it's nice to see that you are concerned and paying attention to stuff.

I personally think his beak looks normal. There beaks seem to always be in a state of peeling and regrowth.I have never paid attention to when my babies beaks started to peel,so I can't really answer as to what age.I did just go thru Samantha's(B&G) pics and by that age her beak was peeling too.Does he like to chew on toys?? That will help the looks more then anything.

It looks fine to me also. If you have a pedicure perch in his cage or play stand he'll rub his beak up and down on that and take care of it himself.

The only time I have been overly concerned with any flaking is if food gets lodged way up under the flaking so that you or they can't get out. I have had this taken care of when it happened on my GW because I was worried about bacteria. She dremeled the area and glued the edges down so nothing else could be jammed underneath the part that doesn't normally flake off.

LOL, Mike! Beak leprosy...

Don't worry about it Shane, its normal. Do you have a pedicure perch for him? I prefer the Sandyperch products. Ollie is always swiping her beak on it, especially after she eats.

Here is her baby beak in the attachment, and a few closeups of her beak at about 17 months that I posted a few months ago when I was worried about the ridge in her beak.

No, I don't have a pedicure perch but I will definitely get him one. He loves to play with toys and destroy wood. If he was born in the wild, I believe he would chew down all the trees in HIS forest and the neighboring forests also, he just loves to destroy wood (its so freaky how strong their beaks are!). I will just leave his beak alone than. Thanx everyone! Ollie is so cute!

Like 2 months ago, Jack's bottom beak got a nick in it but it grew back soo fast, I was really amazed. His beak looked like this: ---v-
the v is the nick , the ---'s are the flat part.

Here is a picture of Leilanis beak, bot the best shot but you can see it is flaky.

You can get the sandy perch they work great, also how does Jack get his calcium?

He gets cuddle bones plus a ton of fruits and vegetables, including collard and mustard greens which are high in calcium.
