marley just got in these couple of faded green feathers in a few weeks ago... dunno if they are normal for aking or its just marley...my av has seen them and said nothing about them so im not worried about him..just wondering
I remember a thread awhile back about african greys who suddenly started sprouting red feathers on their bodies amongst the grey, not related to being a "red factor." I believe abnormal colored feathers are attributed to a nutritional deficiency. This could be completely unrelated, but maybe its something to look into? Does anybody else remember this thread? I think the topic came out of a bird magazine.
I believe abnormal colored featers are attributed to a nutritional deficiency.
This is what my AV thinks also. Kady has funky colored feathers in the two areas that he had surgery on. Through two molts now, it's the same feathers that come in each time that look like they have bleached out colors in them.
It could be a nutritional deficiency or also what are you feeding him,,,I know this sounds strange but sometimes feathers can be discolored by the food they consume. Also did he by any chance pluck those 2 feathers, sam also would grow in his feathers a different colors if he picked them. Did you see Sampson the Ekkie?
well everyday he gets a mix of harrisons pellets and seed in the morning and in the afternoon and evening he gets a mix of what ever veg and fruit are in the house that day and our home grown oats and barley... all the parrots are getting the same food but hes the only one with these bleached feather, they actually look pretty cool mint green colour in reality
I haven't seen much about Australian King Parrots. Have you researched to see if it could be something specific to them? Maybe normal color variation for them? Is this his first adult molt?
I know Ekkies are known to get discolored feathers related to diet. Also Grey's with red feathers (not red factor) as already mentioned.
