Default Fair price for a cage?

What would you say is a fair price to pay for a SS Cage? I'm probably looking at 30x40 Dome. No bigger as it will only be used as a sleeping cage.

Anyone familiar with Bird Fairs? Do they bring SS cages to these fairs? Would it better to go traveling to one, to get a GREAT price?

Karen, I just called the guy I deal with regarding S.S. cages (to see if I could be of assistance to ya) and unfortunately he doesn't deal with S.S. cages - too expensive for him to get into (etc.), he said. My guess though is that if we could find a connection, ya could probably save about 30-40% from advertised retail prices?

I've found some fairly decent, macaw-sized SS cages online for as little as $1800. We personally paid $2500 for our Kings 506, though. Later, I saw the same version online for about $250 less. They're my favs, but they're spendy! We want to buy another, but prolly not gonna happen any time soon. They're worth the cost, though--they are very well made, and more secure than the average SS cage. They're also better designed and easier to put together, imho.

I've seen SS cages at bird fairs. The best one I saw as a macaw sized cage for $325!!!!!!!! Brand new condition--only thing is, it was sold to another vendor before the show opened to the public. Not that I blame the vendor for buying it at that price, but still--I cry "UNFAIR!!" LOL! Usually when I see macaw-sized SS cages (and I'm not talking the Kings cages--just the lesser brands) at shows, they run in the $1400-$1700 range. I'm guessing, though, that if you waited 'til towards the end of a show, you could talk a vendor down in price, as they may not want to have to disassemble it and take it home.

Irish, you're making me drool!! I don't need anything with all the bells and whistles, just sturdy, as she'll only be sleeping in this cage. The Fids usually go to their cages for 30-45 before lights out, sleep, then they're out first thing in the morning.

Will do Karen. I may have a connection in the not too distant future - if ya don't have one by then. Remind me off and on if ya will. Memory is not the same as it used to be. LOL.

I see them all the time at bird fairs around here- One of the companies that I have dealt with, ParrotMount Aviaries, is at most of the bigger shows and they have this cage http://www.parrotmount.com/4030ass.html
in stainless... It is like $1,200.00 on their page, but I think it is a bit less at the shows if I recall. I have bought a number of cages- and my TAG- from them. They are nice to deal with

I've always been interested in SS because I hear they clean up so much easier and are stronger. I wonder, what's the life span of a SS cage as opposed to wrought iron? I know it has to be longer, but how much longer -- twice as much? That would help justify the higher price if that were the case.

They are nice without a doubt, and I have them for my "serious" chewers (for example my U2). Since I have a lot of birds, they do not all get stainless steel for the obvious reason $$$. Big $$$. Most of my birds are Greys, and they have always done fine for many many years in Kings Cages (non stainless). I have not noticed much difference in cleaning, since my Simple Green takes care of everything for me!!!! Love the stuff.
