Default Excellent bird park in Chapultepec, Mexico City

HI everyone -

Last month I went to Mexico, and in Mexico City Zoo is the most excellent bird sanctuary/park. It is HUGE - like the size of a football stadium, but with net over the top, so the birds can have a proper fly around - even the big macaws can have a REAL fly. And there are loads of trees and lots of foliage, and hiding places high up - so the birds don't have to come down and interact with the visitors if they don't want to. But they often do!

It is the best place to see parrots, because they *almost* get a natural life. They can fly around, hide, forage, build nests, pair up, etc. I was entranced. I went two days in a row!

Here are pics - Wait till you see all the lovely parrots (incl. two amazons who are 'esposa y esposo' (husband and wife) according to a guy who works there - see the pic and you'll agree)

That is truly amazing! I would absolutely LOVE to go there! Are there only birds in there?

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. What type of amazon is that? Were you able to touch any of the birds?

I went to the Butterfly Exhibit at the Museum of Natural Sciences in New York City several years ago. It was really interesting.

Wonderful pics, Michele! I never miss a bird park if I happen to be in a place that has them. Did you get to the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan? I recently saw a movie called Apocolypto set in there and it reminded me of when I was in Mexico in the mid 90's. Awesome place, would love to go back!
