Well, the bird was lucky not only because he was found but also because the dog was on a leash because GSP are one breed that is highly disobedient and hyper (I had one) so, chances are, the dog would have grabbed the bird and hurt or even kill it.

I agree, Bea, GSP's are VERY active if not hyper (I have never ever seen a fat one) and ARE bird dogs... but aren't pointers just supposed to flush the birds, and let the hunter shoot it? (I dunno, I don't hunt. Jess knows how to handle a gun, maybe she knows?
)

Yes, pointers are supposed to just point at the bird BUT although this is a bred trait into them, you still have to train them not to flush them (which is the 'normal' reaction in hunting dogs).
