Default Do you grow sprouts for your bird?

I have always grown herbs for the fids and have recently started growing sprouts for them. Here are a few you might want to try.

Amaranth, Barley, Buckwheat, Field corn, Popcorn, Millet, Oats, Rice, wheat, Almonds, flax, Pumpkin, beens, Alfalfa, Clover, Garbanzo beans, chick peas.

I did...haven't ordered any in awhile. Sproutpeople.com has some good bird mixes for those looking for a good premade mix. I actually think I'm heading there right now to make an order...

I have tried it before....but I failed! I know...how do you fail in sprouting? I have no idea...although I found out later that there was too much water in them. I haven't tried it again...I need to though.

You just need to barley cover the seed for them to sprout.
Beans and some seed will not sprout but will get soft which is another treat.

Avian Naturals has two wonderful organic seed mixes for soaking. One is larger, the original, the other is called 'Super Spicy little sprout mix'. I combine them and soak overnight. I don't go for the sprouts, I used the soaked seed and serve them right before they sprout. Very easy-I cover the seed with water and leave it overnight for 12 hours. Drain it the next day and serve a heaping spoon over their food. I will sometimes add whatever grains I have on hand for their gloop to the sprout mix.

I've always wanted to try the soaked seed but I haven't yet. Thanks for the link, Randi, I will order some!

I bought this "easy sprout" online (sorry can't remember the site). It's very easy to use and you'll have sprouts in 3 days (depending on your sprout mix). My birds ( blue and gold macaw, eclectus, african grey and caique) loves the sprouts.
