I sometimes see a slight change in the color of their droppings after about 3 days which I am told is caused by the toxins coming out of their body.
Kathie, thanks for mentioning this. I got scared last month when I detoxed Kita and saw this. It was right at the 3 day mark, I noticed the change. I got so worried, I stopped giving it to her.

We're detoxing again, after her second round of treatment for the zinc toxicity. This time, I continued even after seeing the bad droppings at 3 days.

I know what you mean - I fortunately knew ahead of tiime. It was strange, most of my birds had no change in color; however, the worst was the Eclectus I had rescued who was on a diet of sunflower seeds, hot dogs and popcorn. Hers was almost black.

We just finished 7 days. The 5th. & 6th. day were almost black. Is it ever advised to treat longer than 7 days at a time?

Does anyone recommend any particular technique for mixing fresh aloe (from the inside of the plant) with water? The stuff has the texture of snot (seriously) and would rather stick to any available surface than mix with water.

I've only done it for 7 days. I have a birdie guru in North Carolina. She studied with a vet in Florida who does mostly holistic medicine. Her instructions were 7 days every six months.

I wonder if you were to heat it up with a little water if it would change the consistancy enough to mix better that way?

This is exactly what I use. Lately I've been doing it for "one water change" per day ---so they get one bowl w/aloe detox, one without. I spoke to someone who reminded me to make sure the bird isn't avoiding water because of the taste of the aloe. If that should happen I would put it on birdie bread

=jimpierce;7751]what I got today is Lily of the Desert AV80 aloe detox 3 times the strength concentrate. Only thing Whole Foods had. Our local Whole foods is going thru a down sizing of products.

that is interesting. I have not heard before that detoxing people isn't helpful. I may be wrong but I thought using items like this to detox the body where simply to help the body do its job? Like some foods help the immune system, some the heart....[/quote]

I use the fresh aloe a lot since it grows real well on my porch. I have a one cup size container for my blender and whip it that way with distilled or boiled water before I add it to either drinking water for fids or furrbabies or shampoo or spray for same. I also detox everybody and me, too twice/yr 7 days.
