Default The DNA results are in!!!

You are NOT the father...lol...just kidding. My dear sweet Harrison is female...ha. I found out yesterday and I was pretty shocked, to say the least. It's hard to think of her as a dainty little girl...not a buff little dude....I'm pretty sure we're going to leave her name as is...I wish I would have done the DNA testing sooner but the breeder was so SURE she was a he...oh well, hubby is outnumbered, once again

She has done this mating dance thing since the day we brought her home at 3 months old...now I'm wondering if it's something else...she makes a sweet grunting sound, holds her wings down and kinda shows her back...then up comes the food. I've been redirecting her before the food comes up since I thought it was a mating dance thing...but now I'm not sure that's what she's doing. My husband thought maybe she thinks of me as her "baby" and is trying to feed me. I have noticed a direct correlation between her doing this behavior and later in the day becoming aggressive...If I stop her from doing it, she is less likely to become aggressive (sometimes she still does but not everytime)....any thoughts on this??

Thanks,
Heather

No, actually she doesn't like my husband. She does it when we're alone mostly but will when he's around too. Harrison won't let him pick her up or anything. But, also, my husband is a bit nervous around her. I'm the only one she'll allow physical interraction with, unfortunately.

Thank you all for your replies.

Congrats on your girl!!

Regurgitation is a sign of affection, not necessarily related to mating behaviors or parenting behaviors. The wings out sounds like a form of begging. Could also be affection related. Could you explain the 'showing the back' part a little more?

If by "showing the back" you mean sort of scootching down with wings out a bit and fluttering, I'd interpret that as begging behavior, especially if she was doing it at three months of age. LOL, funny how often it seems that when they were initially named and thought to be a boy, they turn out to be a girl!

What I mean by "showing her back" is her wings droop. Then she kinda looks like she's doing a tap dance while making sweet, low, grunting sounds. Then she does this head bobbing thing, different from regular head bobbing, and the food comes up shortly after. Does that make sense? And like I said, she's done this since day one when we got her at 3 months of age. Darn, I have a video camera but I can't figure out how to get the video to the computer...grrrrr
