#5 | | | Re: Did you say GIGI? It's very difficult really. You NEVER know about a bird. You read the stories online. IN fact, unless there is a problem, a lot of owners don't post the positives, only the opportunities with their birds.
iI dunno. I had hoped to find a reason to NOT pursue her today actually.
But what I saw was a beautiful healthy affectionate companion parrot that had no reservations that laughed, danced, was potty trained, and just needed more attention ONLY because the owners thought so. The bird hasn't any deficits apparant due to her being in her cage more than a lot of toos. They said they left her in there for days sometime, not a LOT, but it has happened. And she is upstairs away from them now in a rec room. She has a beautiful big cage full of toys right beside a window. She is loved.
I do wonder myself if I took her HOW she would act after a few weeks.
I approach it cautiously. But I cannot let bad posts sway me from something that I might look back on and say I messed up. This would be it as far as birds go. Cleo is my challenge and success story I love but she is NOT hands-on at all. ALL of my family want a bird to have hands-on time with; to share, not to just stare at.
It' hard, very hard to make a choice when it comes to something like this.
I want to hear from some happy too owners. I know they are out there.
ANY bird can change overnite. |

#7 | | | Re: Did you say GIGI? VERY GOOD!! Thanks..a LOT. I see pros and very realistic cons in there. I am a researcher to the end, I don't make things easy.
As I said, a very early arrangement if it takes place, is that I'll take her for 2 or 3 weeks and see how she fits into our home and life.
But that was an excellent thread. I'm hoping to find out more on mytoos.com
IT is very obvious that these birds are not for everyone. I can see that. But, from what I see, I don't see aproblem with it in our home. Especially in the fact that she has been left alone at her house now somewhat without attention at times and she hasn't plucked. Yea, she did scream today, but Cleo screams when you walk away from her too. She quits after a few minutes.
As I said, I hate to miss an opportunity that I might not get again.
what to do..what to do....? dunno...if it's meant to be, it'll be, If not, then it won't! |

#10 | | | Re: Did you say GIGI? Well, after reading a lot online, now I am confused for sure. The posts are OVERWHELMINGLY against even owning a Moluccan too. Very bad PR. I mean, to be honest, it sounds like it should be illegal to sell them. Kind of like the lil things in the 80's movie Gremlin. Cute and cuddly, but will kill you if water was added.
Hard to believe why anyone would want one. All I know is what I saw today and it is a stark different picture than what I have read. Gigi was hopping around, handed off to anyone, laughing, I mean you couldn't ask for a better bird..or pet for that matter. But that's all I saw.
I'm very disappointed, informed mind you, but disappointed.
The reading makes Cleo sound like the most well behaved animal in the world when compared to a Moluccan too.
If they are that bad...I guess people just keep em out of guilt. I can think of no other reason that one would want something that is that aweful to have around.
Oh well???!!! hahaha.... |
