Default Data is home...Jean is not

Alright I was going to save this for monday when momm would be able to send me the pictures but just watching these two is making me scratch my head. They spent time side by side today for 5 hours before we got home, then on the last 3 I got the inkling to see if I held them in seperate hands, to see what would happen as I put them closer to observe their behaviors. Jean leaned as far away from her as he could, and Data fluffed up, then turned her head towards him, and put it down. At which point Jean shifted his weight and leaned towards her slowly beak open. I tensed because I thought a bite was coming, then I saw his tongue extend, and touch her first, then he started preening her. Then that preening turned to cuddling, and he started to regurge for her. But when I seperated them (btw mom got a pic of it we think) and put them on the floor, she/he ran over and started biting him in the butt. Now I did find this funny because as I moved to seperate him on the first nip, Jean just ignored her, so I paused with my hand hovering near his head to stop him from turning on Data. And she just kept pecking away at his butt, and he didn't care. After the 4th nip I seperated them then put them in their cages side by side with the doors open so they could watch tv right? I hear jingling, and look over and Data's clumsily manuvering out of his cage and onto Jeans....I watch Jean who's sitting on a perch in the middle of the cage eye him, then he manages to get to the front of the cage and onto a perch pointing towards the middle. They look at each other and I give Jean a warning look which he seemed to shrug off with a "Hello" a head bob, then he went to the bottom of his cage to play while Data went to the top part to sit on Jean's red treat dish and finish off his millet before fluffing up on one leg and trying to sleep there. This btw is the closest point to my bed within the cage..... Jean's still ringing his bell, and pouting at the bottom of his cage, but then he seems happy and goes up halfway, checks on her then goes back down to the bottom of the cage. I am not letting them sleep together on their first night but it's just like WOW....Data wasted no time moving in and taking over. I probably should have named him/her Borg.....

Either way, the new bird though 4 1/2 years younger and smaller, managed to kick Big Bad Jean out of his house.

Tinna it's too soon to put them together someone can get hurt. I think they did well all things considered. AND the fact that it's 11 at night too.

It takes time...Jean is capable of biting the Tiel's beak or leg right off so it's making me scared. Sometimes they can never be together it all depends. Data was just scared...

I know it's too soon for them to be together that's why I was standing over them when they were that close. I know Jean well enough that I trusted him with a pair of budgies without having to worry about him hurting them. But they never tried to provoke him.

My curiosity and trust of Jean made me do it if it makes you all happy to know I won't be putting them that close together again for a long time. BTW she's already gone through quarantine at my mom's house so he's fine.

good that Data is home. The scary part is that even good natured Jean can suddenly lose his temper and bite Data. I know this because I live with suns that can be around budgies. They seem fine together and then ........ they try to bite cheeky budgies. The budgies are flighted and the suns are not. Please be very careful. The budgies and suns can be together outside in the aviary but not inside in the cages, the suns are simply too aggressive once they work up courage to chase the budgies.
