This is long, but Please Please Read it.
On Sunday Night, May 25th, Sybil Erden founder of The Oasis was on our call. She gave us all a small taste of the hoops and red tape she has had to jump through to save the life of - JUST ONE stranded Blue and Gold Macaw named Gulliver. It was incredible to say the least of what she and many others have gone through for this ONE parrot. To hear a replay of her story please go to:
www.AsktheBirdExperts.com. (It’s FREE!) Sybil has lots of other parrots here in the States that need her help, she get 1000’s of calls each year. She has parrots in her care already that sure could use your donations, as could all the other sanctuaries. So what is it about this One bird that has taken her time, her resources, given her sleepless nights and headaches beyond belief? Maybe she feels like I do. Maybe, if not her then who. Maybe she could not sit back and watch one of ours, all be it a parrot, be left behind! To read his story and what Sybil and The Oasis is doing to help him visit her site:

Yesterday was Memorial Day. The one day a year set aside to “HONOR” our fallen soldiers. Our country’s military motto is “No one’s left behind.” Many of our men have fallen themselves going back to get a hurt or injured man. We use it in our schools,“No child left behind.” Well, I realize that we are not talking about our military men and women, or even a child; we are talking about “JUST” a bird. Just one bird, just one of many, that need our help so desperately. There are plenty of birds here in the United States that could use our help. But this “ONE” bird, which is “JUST” a bird, was left behind, he IS one of ours.
He was left behind, in a place where “pet parrot” is not in their vocabulary. These people eat birds. And I understand where food is scarce, you do what you have to do to survive, it is their way of life. They also, have laws against the import of animals that are not native to their island, because the introduction of a non native plant or animal could destroy their wildlife that they must depend on for food. I understand and it makes sense to me, believe me I get it.
What I don’t get is us not doing everything we can to go get this Blue and Gold Macaw named “Gulliver”. One of ours, one of our “Left behind”. He will be put to sleep, they will have NO choice, and his only crime – being Left behind!
Maybe it just me, maybe I care a little too much. But I would have done things differently. I think about my B&G Pebbles, and if this had happened to Quincy and I. Quincy would have gone home without me, to get the proper paper work in place, to get me and Pebbles home. I would have still been sitting on that island, probably starving right along with the natives. But Pebbles is my family, I could not have just left her, ever! Ok, I know it is easy to say what you would do if it were you, when you are not going through it, maybe it is easier said then done. And I’m not going through it but Gulliver is. His owner left him; we are his only hope at life. We have to care! We have to help! If we don’t who will? Gulliver’s owners left him behind. I wish it were different and they did care but they don’t. Many have tried to contact them and they have refused to call back, get in touch with or even follow up with those that are trying to get him home. Plain and simple, they don’t care. So we all need to step up to the plate and care for him, to help him get home. He is not ours personally, but as fellow bird lovers, if we don’t help who will?
What can you do to help?
First and foremost, donate money. Maybe times are tight for you, you don’t have a lot of money right now, I completely understand. But please know, every dollar counts, so no matter if you just have $1.00 or $1,000’s please help, visit and donate here:

Ok so you don’t have any money to help, our economy is bad right now, I got it, but what can you do? There is A LOT you can do. Do you realize that you know others that can help? Think about it, and email them, ask them. Let’s use the Internet and join together to help him. Post on your forums, and chat rooms, put The Oasis link -
The Oasis Sanctuary, LTD - Exotic Bird Sanctuary and Rescue, Phoenix, AZon your Signature of your email. Tell them to go to our site and download the call to listen to Sybil and help with the rescue -

Do you have extra air miles to donate? Do you know someone that owns a private plane; do you know a news person that will pick up this story? Can you post a flyer at your work? Do you know someone with money, who might donate as a tax right off? Do you know someone famous or an animal rights group that might help? Those are just a few ideas.
But whatever you do, DON’T just do by and do nothing! You can get the word out. Don’t assume others are helping and you don’t need to.
This is not a plea for me, Sybil, the birds already in her care, or her sanctuary (which needs and could use these donations). This is a plea about “one” blue and gold parrot named Gulliver, who will die. They will put him to sleep, they will have to. And his only crime is “BEING LEFT BEHIND”
