Default Crazy Schedules

Being that I'm a full time college student, my schedule is very erratic. Some mornings I have class at 7:30, sometimes I don't have my first of the day until noon. It is 11 pm here, and Ollie just went to bed 30 minutes ago. Tomorrow I have class from 8:30 to 10:20, so when I wake her up at 10:30 she will have had 12 hours of covered time- figure at least 11 hours of (potential) good sleep. Waking her up before my early classes would put both of us in very cranky moods.

Although it probably isn't the ideal situation, it is really the only one that works now. Her cage is in my bedroom which, due to a really awful roommate, is where we both are 95% of the time. I stay up too late to put her to bed for a decent nights sleep any earlier, especially since I'm up late typing away on PC with her cage 3 feet away. However, going to bed late and sleeping in late doesn't seem to affect Ollie at all. I'm sure she doesn't even know the difference.

Does anybody else have the same issues? Night shifts, students....?? Do your birds seem at all affected by the weird sleeping habits?

Kona doesnt seem to have a problem, either does Fiji my green cheek conure. Im a college student, and work anywhere from 25-30hours a week on average. They usually go to bed around 930 or 10 and awake at the same time, two days of the week they get up a little earlier because i have early class.

No one seems to mind, i dont notice any attitude changes either.

Eh... Tiki was usually up with me from 10pm to 4am and slept during the day when I was a full time student. She survived and she was happy to be up with me. They adapt, Ollie will be fine :-} Just make sure to realize when she doesn't need or want to be up with you.... like before your early class like you said!

We were worried about our early up at 4:00 and early to bed schedule since we go to work early, but our birds are fine with it. I agree, they want to blend into the home routine. They get a nap in the afternoon while we are gone.

Lets see I wake up ten minutes before seven in the morning to get ready for work and I only work 24hrs a week still. I give Bella some scritch time and we converse before I have to go. She gets new food or topped off, new water, more scritches, and sometimes a nut for being such a good girl. She's happy to get scritches and give me welcoming 'pumping' in the morning. When I come home I let her have cage time seeing work can be stressful and my mood might be sour. She'll come out after an hour or so hang on her stand, get cuddles, eat dinner, and converse or whatever she is feeling up to. She goes to bed at 9-10:30pm she's still on the BP clock! We get some serious cuddles in before bed too.

I have a crazy schedule too...a lot like your's. I have a morning show, so I'm up and in the shower at 4 AM. I leave the house at 4:50. Unlike you, Camille, I uncover Tuki when I'm leaving...say good morning, freshen water & food...but I darken the room when I leave. So he can go back to sleep and wake with the sunrise.

Then I'm home at noon - Tuki, the dog and I all nap for 2-3 hours.

At night, I cover Tuki around 9 or 9:30. (sometimes earlier if he's doing his screaming thing - I take that as a signal he's grumpy)

Camille - my schedule is crazy too. I have had my birds for many years and, knock on wood, the goofy schedule does not seem to affect them. If anything, I think it has made them better in the behavioral department since they do not expect to come out at a certain time every day.
