Right now they really need a bigger cage, and my hubby is dead set on me not buying any more cages. Since they are 5 years old and brothers and have never been seperated I really don't want to seperate them. I have been posting
on freecycle and searching craigslist, but not having any luck with someone having a cage they want to get rid of. My search will continue though. |
Please consider having hubby go to your local animal-feed type store and buy a roll of 1/2x1 inch GAW Aviary wire. Ya can also order it on line. Buy the tools (cage rings and crimper) to turn it into a long flight/play cage about 7ft. long by 3ft. deep by 4ft. tall with double floor to protect feet. Add metal roof. Then attach it to wall of your residence (not applicable of course if ya live in an apt. etc.) right against a window that you hopefully can take the window screen out of permanently. Raise window (if ya have that type) and cut door opening into wire. This way you can bring in the birds as desired with no chance of escape. They will be exposed to daily natural direct sunshine (very important) as needed and outdoor humidity, rainshowers and plenty of natural sights to stimulate the mind. Or build an aviary (fairly simple) outside a sliding glass door if ya have one. More suggestions to follow possibly.
If the new housing definitely has to be inside your home for whatever reason, ya can still do this inside with the addition of proper F.S. Lighting - against a wall in one of youyr rooms maybe or elevated attached to a wall just below a ceiling. Nuff for now. Good luck getting/building them nice roomy & safe housing.
