OH, and I always ask first: "OK doc, what exactly are we going to do now?" BEFORE they do something.

For example I wont let anyone remove my animal. Also not holding them too long in a stress position. But an experienced AV should know that. He should be sorta fighting them a bit ...not limp and gaping not really breathing.

Not saying this to scare you just so you know to sorta prepare for getting an explanation ahead of time.

I posted a link about emergency vet visits I'll try and find it and repost.

He eats pellets. The fruity looking Zupreem kind. He also gets fresh food in the morning and at night. He is a very picky eater though and he will only eat apples, grapes, blueberries, and birdie bread (which is filled with green veggies and peppers usually). I think he eats more fresh food than pellets honestly, probably about 60% fresh if not more.

I am so sorry about Danny.

Look around to see if he has been chewing on anything, even if it is something you think is safe.
It sounds like something that happened to to my blue crown conure last year. He had been chewing on a basket that i thought was safe only to find out later there was a wire woven into it that I was unaware of. He presented symptoms very much like what you described one morning and was diagnosed with metal poisoning at the vet. Thank God they were able to treat him and he survived and is perfectly healthy now although there is some paralysis ...he has lost some strength in his ability to grasp and hold onto things.
You say he is free flighted so look at the top and bottom of your curtains for hooks/ pins ..., fake flowers have wires in them, baskets, coat hangers, tops of your windows where they perch sometimes to look out has metal locks and possibly been painted prior to the 70's which means lead paint, pencils, extension cords (they love to chew the plastic off and get to the wire) anything else you have noticed him getting into. One of my guys had gone under the bed had chewed the covering away and was chewing on a spring!!!!

If it is lead poisoning be assured that treatments do work especially if you catch it as soon as you have.

Hope all goes well for you and your little one.
Keep us posted.

Donna

When I was researching Harrison's, it read "Make sure your bird is actually eating the pellets and not just grinding them up". I am wondering if this is a more extreme version of what happened to Echo... She was very quiet, slept through EVERYTHING and would fall off her perches out of nowhere...

If he's only playing with them, he's not getting a lot of the nutrients he needs.

I forgot to add
Sometimes they find loose change that falls on the floor like pennies...they have a lot of zinc in them. Mine also fly off with my hair clips if i am not careful to put them away. They have metal springy things in them.

I pray that everything is ok and Danny is back to his normal self soon.

YOu are so right with the list of dangerous items. My Parrotlets like every single one of them. Especially the hair clips when I'm wearing them. The windows, the door locks, the wire frame of lampshades they used to want to chew the cloth off the frame when they sit up there on the lamp, the ceiling fan where you can't see what's on top where there are wires...the list is very long.

Thanks everyone. I just got home and thought I would update you before we leave. He seems worse then he was this morning. He is still very out of it acting and not perching. He is still letting me touch him which is so unusal. And he is very quiet, normally he is my loudest bird. Actually the whole house is quiet and the other birds are behaving almost to well. I think they know something is up. He did eat the birdie bread I gave him though, so I think that is a good thing. But I am still really scared that something is majorly wrong.

Also even though he is fully flighted, he really doesn't fly that much. And he certainly doesn't explore the way the other birds do. But I will look around to see if there is anything he could have gotten into.
