Default Cockatoos and asthma

I have severe asthma due to my cockatoo allergy.

Does anyone else deal with this? I have solved much of the issue by bathing and keeping her totally in a seperate room. I have to limit her time spent with me, but other family members are helping out.

I use many air filters, both in my room and in her room.

With Gracie, we used Hepa filters. She hated bathing, so that wasn't really an option. Despite everything we could do, though, I still ended up rehoming her--I couldn't breathe!

I still have allergies to the dogs and other birds, but now, at least, they're manageable. With Gracie here, there was just no way....

I am okay at the store for the most part with the cockatoos, as we have a huge exhaust fan. Once that gets shut off, I am running for my inhaler.

I don't have asthma so I don't know if it's fair that I should respond. I did have severe allergies when I was young and was hospitalized most of the time I lived in Florida. I was told I was allergic to most animals and most living things. I went through a lot of hell and so did my parents. We moved up north and I don't know if it was coincedence or I grew out of it or what, but the older I get, the less problems I have.

What am I trying to say? I don't know, just felt I should post since I have cockatoos..... and I have allergies.

Do you take any medicine for your allergies/asthma? You're probably doing all you can on the bird's end, but what about yours?

My brother has severe allergies to animal hair with cats being the worst and horses a close second. He also has very bad asthma, the combination of the 2 has landed him in the ER many times, especially when he was younger. My mom was in a very bad accident when my brother and I were in grade school, so my brother and I spent a lot of time at our grandparents house. They have 2 indoor cats. My grandma keeps a stash of pills for my brother for when he has to be there longer than a few hours. I'm not sure what they are, but they allow him to stay comfortably in the house for 24 hours at a time when otherwise he would be nearly suffocating. Do you have anything like that?
