#1 | | | ClippED Cleo Ok, the deed is done. Cleo is safe back at home. The visit to pick her up from the cute vet was informative.
When I walked in Cleo ran to the side of the cage, stuck her cute mug up against the bar for some scratching....and we "awe". So, the vet said Cleo did pretty good. She climbed out of the cage, then sat on top, was all good. Then even tried to step up on the assistants finger then got nervous like she does with me and it went downhill from there. Quickly she launched, without countdown and warning, and did a Boeing out of the exam room, down the hall and into some other room where she crash landed in the floor. After they found her, and tried to towel her, she went into attack mode and started lunging at everyone, but finally they got her subdued and restrained safely and clipped, exam and nails done.
Now, the vet said that in her case, with her past, clipping is definatly gonna help make her a better pet. She said she recommended me having it done. That reassuarance was good. The cute vet said that, later, when she was more acclimated to being handled, we should draw blood for a baseline. That's ok. She said it would be unnecessary right now and would require more stringent restraints as skiddish as she was. So, we'll wait on the avian panel.
So, Cleo made it home, it was too late to stop for ice cream, lol. But we sang and had a good ride home.
I got her home and sat her crate outside the cage and she wanted to go home. Of course she wanted to eat my hand, but she easily got onto the perch. That was nice. She knows. I know she knows.
Then I pulled her tree with her toys in there and she didn't wanna leave her cage to go to the tree until I put a lil treat on there, then she easily stepped onto the perch. She knows. I know she knows. But as usual, 1/2 the way there, she launched off the perch, Mrs. Independence, but quickly glided down to the base of the tree. She sat there, appeared dumbfounded at why this didn't work anymore. And when I offered the perch, she easily stepped back up on it. She knows..
Same thing going back to her cage. She don't want a hand, but she easily stepped onto the perch to "go home".
So, all in all, it's a success.
I really don't like her not being flighted. I want her to realize that she is safe and can be transported on a perch or my finger and let her flight feathers grow back. I want her to be able to be herself, but safely.
Thanks for all the support from this forum. This saga continues and you all have been so supportive.
I tell you, I thought bout that bird all day at work and when I got to go see her and she scooted over to the side of the cage and pressed her furry green cheek up for me to scratch and closed her eyes...that was nice.
I know she knows.
So tonite, in her cage, temporarily a lil less of a woman than she was,
standing on one foot, my green rescued bird sleeps peacefully. Far from the hamster cage she was poked in somewhere in Indiana.
She is home now, and she knows, I know she knows.

Not looking either!
But her being cute always helps for a dreaded vet trip.
