Re: Cleaning Frequency Cleo usually poops in one spot under one perch, so I am fortunate with that. I put a paper under that at least once a day. But that's just open the door and replace it. The papers in the trays get replaced maybe once a week, usually more. But unless she's molting, once a week. Cage wiped down as needed, no schedule there. Water change every day. She loves to make zupreem stew.
After the problem I had with Cecil becoming diabetic, I'm very cautious with her foods and that may lead to a cleaner cage. She is mostly on a strict Zupreem pellet diet. I'm very cautious with snacks. A diabetic bird is a scary thing. Very scary...a grape to "go home", pnuts to "step up" (that and some prayers and maybe even sacrifice a cow) and maybe some celery/apples just for kicks. She hates carrots. So, her diet is healthy and keeps her cage a little cleaner. Also, I do give her daily "kitchen sink recipe" stuff that I make which is just rice/13 bean mix and frozen veggies. She gets a heaping tablespoon of that a day. I mix it, freeze it and take out the nite before. She cleans that crock.
Water at least once a day.
Now...my daughter's tiel Dood. OMG what a nasty lil animal. It's impossible to keep his cage clean. He is a million times dirtier than Cleo. He's in complete hygienic arrest. Down flying everywhere, zupreem slung like a maniac. He turns the water bowl over. It's like a lockup room in the emergency room in his cage...avian madness.
But, he's happy!
