Default Cage suggestions?

I'm moving to BC in June, and i'm buying a new cage for the birds. Right now they're in three similar cages, but its WAYY too much to clean. So to make things easier, I was thinking something like this:

not that exactly, but the basic idea of a smaller cage on one side, and a larger one on the other side. That way Indy can have a seperate cage from the girls. But I was wondering how big a cage has to be to house two poicephalus together.

Or, another idea was just to house them all together in one large cage like this:

But that means boys and girls would be living together- and I don't want anymore birdies. What do you think?

That large cage is beautiful! If you can afford it and have the room definantly go for that!

I'm sure someone will come in with tips on how to discourage breeding.

That guy has one of the coolest aviaries I've ever seen. I love it! My concern would be safety, unless you're absolutely convinced that they wouldn't squabble. You wouldn't be thinking of putting the Cag and P'let in there too, would you? If it's just for the Poi's, then if you had an aviary cage like that, you could easily partition off a section for Sydney is it? I assume that's the male? That's the only way I know of to ensure no breeding.

Actually, the cage was built by a guy on another forum i'm a member of. I would just get my step dad to make a similar cage.

Nate, Indy is the boy and thank you for the suggestion. For some reason I never thought of that. Don't worry! I wouldn't think of putting ALL the birds together. I should have been more specific. Yes, it is for just the poi's.

Thanks!

Edit: I'm not convinced that they wouldn't squabble, because Sydney doesn't really get along with the others. They can play together fine, because she just keeps to herself. I just figured the same would go for the cage.

I have a cage similar to the first picture - please note that the cage you posted has only ONE door! The one I have has doors on both sides, and a removable divider, and the playtop side is taller. I know darn well there is no way I could clean the cage w/ only one door! I have a hard time cleaning it with two doors - they are pretty narrow.

Double checking the picture I think it's all one cage. Oops. Well, I think you get the idea that it would have two doors. Sorry!

If it's three birds I wouldnt do it. I'd be worried about a fight. Two, ok. I'd do a big aviary like the photo but divided. Double divided so nobody can bite through the wire. Like each divider has two panels one for each side if you know what I mean.

Removable would be good so they can be divided when you're not home but remove the dividers when you want them to socialize. If they all end up getting along great long term you can let the three in there without the dividers then.

That first cage is a bummer for the poor bird who draws the small side. Small and dark. You can never have too big of a cage and with two birds they need somewhere to retreat if there is a disagreement. Also need room to fly around in there. Most cages they cant even stretch their wings let alone fly.

If you were housing a pair, I'd say dont worry about babies. As long as you follow a strict natural daylight schedule including dusk and dawn (the same amout of daylight as you have where you live)...not overdo the protein and vitamin e in the winter months, they wont be in out of season breeding mode. Then on the chance they breed in the spring (as nature intended) then you just swap the eggs with fakes from fakebirdeggs.com or freeze theirs and replace at room temp. You leave them in there until they lose interest. They may not breed at all but if they do it's just once in the spring. And they have a normal life. They don't even care if the eggs don't hatch they just go about their business.

Wow that 2nd one is amazing! I would just love to have one of those for my TAG! I read somewhere that the first one you have there is hard to clean because of the different levels. But hey who knows if that is true. I think it looks like a nice cage.
