Default Cage-Sharing

As soon as I got home from school, I immediatly went to check on the fids. This is pretty routein and I go around and see how everyone is, change water, let out, etc... Well, I have my own personal Houdini (Chipper) who just seems to love getting out and scaring me. Not sure how che does it (I have everything completly secured) but she does. Anywho, I found her in a very scary spot and nearly fell over, as you can guess. What I don't understand is why none of the birds are cage-territorial to each other. They seem to have no problem with the other going in (when they aren't in there) and for one to be on top (esp. Echo and Lucy and Echo and Chipper now). Do any of you experience this? Does anyone find it disturbing that my birds do that? Thanks!!!

i think that's amazing they are like that! my only guess as to why, is maybe since they are all still young (i think?) and haven't hit sexual maturity yet. but i hope they stay like that, a good way to be!

Our birds go in and play in the others cage quite often with no push back from the cage owner when they are not in the cage. They just watch the other one go in and while they are perched high enjoying their play gym!

While Dakota can be somewhat cage territorial, Ollie has never shown any signs of aggression relating to it. I can't really comment specifically because I've never given mine the opportunity to be in each other's cages together.

Great, so I shouldn't be too concerned about it Only Chipper and Lucy have reached maturity and neither of them are territorial either. I hope Lucy stays like this forever, lol!

Maple and Harley share and swap cages regularly. All yesterday they were in each other's cages...they don't mind one little bit. Share their food and all.

I would be very, very careful with Lucy, female ekkies are extremely aggressive and territorial birds and when they snap, they go for the kill so, please, be careful.

As to your other question, I ony keep one parrot in a cage and she is handicapped so, when the others go in, she doesn't react because she knows she cannot win. None of the others are in cages and that, I think, it's the reason why they all get along so well.

Beatriz,

I realize how agressive eclectus can be. Believe me, I have enough battle scars from her alone (not to mention Zazu and all the other eclectus I've gone 'into battle' with over the years). I appreciate your warning though. Too many times an owner won't listen and that's when the accident happens...
