Question Cage Location?

Mornin' all, I was wondering if it is a good idea to place a cage in front of a window? Does it make birds nervous? Do they like watching the world go by? I have heard pros and cons about it, but I was wondering if I could hear from you all and your experiences from where your birds cages are located. Thanks!

I try to give my birds the view out of a window. I have had no problems with doing that. I have heard that it may be a good idea for a bird that is particularly nervous or sensitive, to put the cage so that only 1/2 or 3/4 of it is exposed to the window so that the bird can retreat to the other part of the cage for a "safe haven" if there is anything it sees outside the window that disturbs it. You might want to consider that.

I think many birds enjoy being in front of a window, but on the other hand, many find it overstimulating, and can be frightened by things happening outside. You also need to remember that a window can result in hotter or colder conditions than the rest of the room. At least be sure that at least half the cage is facing the wall or at least a curtain, so the bird can escape the sun's heat, or the shadows of large birds going by. Some birds don't do well in front of a window at all, and absolutely need at least one wall, if not two, partially surrounding them in order to feel safe.

Neither of my birds are directly in front of a window. I worry about extreme hots and colds and drafts, especially here in my very old apartment building. Dakota's cage is positioned so that he can see out the window from across the room, and Ollie has several gyms that allow her to see out windows. Actually, she never really seems to pay attention to what is going on out there- what's going on inside is much more interesting I guess!

Indeed, there are pros and cons to this concern. In my opinion, it is best to choose the safest option and not put the cage directly in front of the window. There are some homes with set ups that may be fine depending on the environment and the bird. We actually have some cages about 6 feet from the window with a quiet mountain view and a deck over head protecting them from the sun. A couple of our birds are too nervous for window views and just someone taking a walk down the street bothers them, so they have a more quiet corner seat.

Mine are all against the windows, due to the layout of my living room. Some of them seem to enjoy looking out of the window & their wild cousins, some just ignore it. I do close the blinds on the rare very hot days, but fluctuations are pretty minor.

Danny's cage is in front of a window and we have had no problems. He likes to look out of it and I think he enjoys the sunshine also. There is a vent over his cage for airconditioning incase he gets to hot and in the winter we put a heater on his side of the room incase of any drafts. He really loves it on a nice day when we can open the window (there is still a screen).

My teils and keets are in front of the kitchen window. The baby keets likes to sit and look out the window the other two don't care. One of my teils like to sit and stare out the window and will actually fall asleep! The other one could care less. My TOO'S house is in the living room by the window but in a corner so that the back and one side are near the wall. She often will sit and look out the window and in the am if I don't open the curtains quick enough will try to do it herself!!!Loves to watch rain fall.

Pita's cage is in the living room, so he can see me where ever I am, even the kitchen, plus he can watch TV...lol He's right in front of the windows. He can see outside from his cage, or from the back of the couch which he likes to sit on and look out.

His play stand is in the office upstairs, also in front of a window, and right next to the computer.

His sleep cage is in my bedroom, in the corner next to the bed, he only goes in there when it's time for him to go to sleep.
