Default Cage Free 24/7

Are there any of you who leave your fids out of their cages all the time, even when you're not home, or not supervising? How do you completely bird proof a room? Has there every been any accidents due to not caging?

Boca and Baby are pretty much out of their cages most of the time. If I know no one is going to be home for more than 3-4 hours they get locked in. I am home almost always so it has never been a problem. They both stay on top of the cages and don't wander unless I'm here and then Boca follows me everywhere.

I don't let him out when we are not home, but Danny could stay out 24/7, no problem. He never leaves his cage or playtop! He would stay up there all day and look out the window if we let him.

The budgies never get themselves into trouble and never destroy anything. The suns - different birds, they can't be trusted unattended.

LOL....they just can't be trusted....period!....and they know it!

Pita's cage door is open all the time when I'm home. He goes in & out, between playing, eating, and sitting on the back of the couch looking out the window. He doesn't really get into trouble, he just poops everywhere, then laffs & says "good boy"

Gayla you mean Pita does not do things he should not like eating wires or the past favorite unhooking the curtains? Those suns are now sold, Peanut's speciality is keyboard destruction or going in holes.

Well, I keep a pretty close watch on him. If I'm laying on the couch and he goes quiet, then I look for him, and he's usually chewing up the cord for the blinds. So now when I pull up the blinds I have to hook the cord up high so he can't get it....other than that, he poops!..........everywhere......lol

Oh and throws food. He's getting good at that. But wires and things, nope, he doesn't know where they are, and never will...lol Now the remote control is another story....he's pretty stelth when he's on that mission. I usually catch him to late.....Remote still works, but you have to know what the buttons are or forget it! lol

That's interesting about your budgies. At first thought I would be inclined to say that Jerry and Winston might get into trouble, but neither have ever given me evidence that they would - both always fly to play gyms or back to their cages. I honestly can't think of one time where Jerry has flown somewhere he shouldn't be. And he never chews wires or anything, he'd much rather play with his bells.

Lulu on the other hand.....if she spots buttons of any sort or shiny objects of any sort, or wires of any sort, she flies or scoots her little butt there in no time!

But none of mine could be cage free because of the cats and dog.
