For the best results I would say so, and for the healthiest chicks. Since this type of switch off ensure health in the wild. But this is typically not done in captivity, simply because it would require more vasa's for the breeder and it is not common knowledge. I went to the extent of hunting down a highly copy written 3 year field study on their breeding behavior that took special access by a state worker friend of mine to get. Why it should be so hard is beyond me. Most breeders have waiting lists for vasa's as they sometimes do not breed every year, if something is amiss, they will skip a breeding season and they will only breed within that season, there is no tricking a vasa or getting them to breed twice in one year. So it is reported. Eves breeding season is very short, but I do not know if that is typical, since he has no females around it is very possiable that it is shortened. A friend of mine has had a pair for years with hopes of breeding, she has never been successful probably because she only has one male, but they started showing signs of breeding months ago. They always go though the motions but never produce. My guess is that she is faking it for food. Classic female vasa trait. Eve only started about a week or two ago. Remember vasa's beak changes color for breeding from black to white, so right now Eve's beak is half white and half black. People report all sorts of difference with vasa's that are not set up for breeding. Like females are supposed to develop a pouch under the beaks that fills with a stick liquid that is fed to the chicks, like milk. But most non breeding females do not develop this pouch while others do. Some go all bald, some half? Some females feet turn bright yellow other do not? The whole thing is very odd. I wish more people would share their experiences with there vasa's in hopes of developing more information. This is why I document everything that Eve goes through, like hunting episodes and such.

I love hearing about Eve, he's such an interesting bird! Vasas in general are so different and so much fun to learn about because they are just so off the beaten path when it somes to birds.

Well, consider yourself lucky that Eve doesn't get agressive or try to nest. Lucy's just started and I'm ready for her to go back to her sweet self!
