Don't feel bad, when I first got Kady and saw the term blood feather being talked about, I had not one clue what one was or what they looked like either.

The sheath causes a prickly feeling for the bird and can hurt and cause them to be grumpy so we shower or mist our birds often to keep the sheath soft and less prickly. They are easier to remove when they are soft and our birds like us to remove them. It is easy with our birds who have buddies, they preen each other.

Oh poor Gracie Lou. Some birds molt more than others, what I mean is it's more visible on some birds than others. Take Blondie and Dagwood for instance. They are molting now, but you only see maybe one or two feathers, these two will molt for up to four months. On the other hand Pickles and Peek-a-Boo molt a lot of feathers at once and their molt time is pretty short in comparaison to Blondie and Dagwood. So, just give Miss Gracie Lou tons of fiddy love, a gentle scritch here and there, and tons of beaky kisses.

Ollie doesn't really care for me to help her preen. I'd like to help though...
