i was always told to always push into the bite too. they dont have the pressure up by the mandiable as to the front of the beaks. roy at casa la parrot always told me to push into it.even if the are just beaking so as not to let them know that you are afraid of their beak. their instinct is to go after the thing(hand) that tries to flee.

valo's tiny little beak, which IS used in order to fulfill his GCC reputation for nippyness, will touch skin, take a little bit between the upper and lower portion of the biting instrumentation and then cheerfully grind until the human rolls eyes in pain

on rare occasion (aka if my friend that he despises comes close enough for him to catch some skin), the biting method will be modified to grabbing, followed by the fixation of a substantial amount of flesh between the upper and lower fixture before significant increase in force applied which finally results in skin breakage and the ensurance of the facts that the dominance in the house wears feathers

The three worst bites I have receive:

1. Cockatiels
2. Cockatoos
3. Amazons

I would rather be bitten by my macaws than any three of the above.

My birds rarely ever bite me, although my Scarlet would love to tear holes in me if I let him. We have an understanding. I guess I am fortunate. Maybe they are all just too old to care to bite me!

Cricket pinches. Benji has never bitten me. He did make Nathanial do a jig once tho. Zoey has a needle beak. She pretty much pinches too.
Sophie? Bone cruncher? Ya saw my nose. That was just playing. When she is mad she is good at using the the point of the beak to make a point. I am very glad my hands are calloused and rough. Its hard to keep in there with the step up finger when she is nailing it! But I have to say that by doing so she does it less. I know Sophie can break a chicken bone with ease. YIKES!!!

When Bud bites, she clamps on & doesn't let go. Sometimes she does the bite & grind thing but mostly she just tries to rip a chunk out! Poor Randy has so many scars on his fingers from her. Piper's never bitten us, she pretty much just grabs on & puts pressure on & then lets go. The tiels won't let us get near them enough to get bitten by them!
