Default Birdie Hammocks

I bought a hammock for my cockatiel and was never successful in getting him to try it. For those that use them, what type of bird do you have and how long until they got used to the idea?

Mary, do you mean a happy hut or is a hammock something different? My tiels will play in the happy huts sometimes but they never sleep in them.

There is a place where someone actually makes hammocks, they are meant for the special abled fids. I believe the person lives here in NC - they are on one of my Yahoo forums.

If you are talking about the huts, I've had several birds that took right too them, our caique loves to lay on her back and play with her ball in hers,,as well as sleep. I've also gotten them for other birds when I had the rescue and beaks were put up in the air at the odd look thing never to be used

My tiels love their happy hut. Mullani is the only one 'allowed' to sleep in them though. Murro has to perch outside, there's two in the cage but oh no Mullani owns both of them. It took them a day or two to get used to them.

Mary you may have heard this before but I would feel remiss if I didn't say it. Please be sure to check the tents for loose threads, there have been a few accidents with birds being caught up on them.

I think my sun/s would love happy huts, we just cant get them here and to convert from dollars it is a kings ransom for one. My sun sleeps in a cardboard box which gets periodically replaced due to DIY so I am not sure how long a hut would remain safe. He has eaten/unwoven a door rug before.

The conures we had come into our rescue really loved them, one little sun used to love to hang out in the arm of my robe. You may be able to get them off ebay. I didn't realize there was someone on the board from S. Africa, I have a good friend that lives in I believe it's Alexander he is very near Kruger National Park, he is a wonderful wildlife artist, oh my point is he buys & sells on ebay and has things shipped all the time
