I dont have a Hy (ahemmmmm.... yet) but when i was considering one, I read you need to offer at least 10 macadamia nuts a day. They can be expensive. I think you can freeze them though if you order bulk. Somebody here had a link to a good nut wholesale place, I think in California. They really need the fat in them for feather quality. Actually, I think the site for the nuts had dried fruits to. Let me see if I can find it.

higgin's premium bird seed/mixes are good too. it is on the expensive side but has more of the dehydrated fruits, veggies, greens and nuts in it than alot of seed. the nuts in the feed is of the walnuts, pecans, almonds, cahews, pine nuts, and ect. very little to no peanuts.

Emily, I put together my own dry mix that they have during the day (along with their fresh and Birdie Bread) using products from Barry Farms, Just Tomatoes, Organic Granola, Nuts and Pellets. They only get a seed mix with their dinner. I think I am going to start mixing my own seed mix also, then I know exactly what's in it.

i think that is very much what i want to do too, eventually. i went ahead and ordered 3 pound bags of the 2 different mixes to be safe for now. and then as i go along, i will start figure out my own mixture. with probably MANY tips from you, i am sure. OH i ordered a package of that birdie bread mix too

it seems like mixing your own is the only way to go...just like cooking your own food is the only way to eat healthy these days!

We use Volkman as a basic seed mix and I add my own human grade nuts, dried fruits, and natural or Harrison's pellets. I make my birdie bread with carrots, sweet potatoes, blueberries and pomegranate juice for the liquid with broccoli and cauliflower veggie puree. They won't eat broccoli or carrots any other way. (you can add what she needs to birdie bread) They also like whole wheat pasta and of course, mac nuts for dessert! Don't panic, just try different healthy foods and enjoy Ivy! We are all here to chime in, you are not alone!
