Default Bendable Latex Perches

Latex Perches

Does anybody have one of these? Do you recommend them or not? I'm thinking about getting one for both Ollie (CAG) and Dakota (tiel).

I'm interested to hear the answer. I'm sure Tiki would love one to stand on (Red doesn't so much like the soft perches) but I have not gotten one as I'm sure it would get eaten in 30 seconds flat.

I think Pita needs one or two....lol He has toys made out of that and loves them, I think it's the texture. Don't know if he'd like one as a perch....they sure look like fun.

I must say Camille, I am old, and have a rather randy mind, so when I first read the title of this, so many nasty, inappropriate things came to me.....but I resisted. If you'd like more info PM me....

I bought some a while back. Jack loved his. So did Seymour, in fact Seymour loved his so much he chewed it to pieces in a matter of hours. Oh well he enjoyed it. I'm thinking they are more appropriate for less destructive birds.

I have the bendy latex perches in my Eclectus girls cages.

I think the girls like the way the feel on their footies. I originally got them when Kira was having a bought with toetapping. I thought it might give her some relief to have something soft to grip. Gia likes to bounce on them a little as she side steps.

I like that they clean up easier and dry faster than some of the hardwood perches I've had. They aren't slippery and I think they provide a good grip. Mine have plastic bolts on the side which are convenient and don't scratch the cage bars. However, one of my perches sort of retracted from the bolt end (came unglued?). I've never seen them bigger than 1" diameter and I don't know that I'd trust them with my Macaws. I think they'd rip the latex off before lunchtime!

(Think I got mine at Fosters/Smith)

Hope this helped!

I purposefully do not buy any toy or perch that is made or has the soft latex. Call me paranoid, but I could just see my birds chewing it and possibly ingesting it.
No thanks. They do really well with the natural fibers so I stick with those.

Hmmmm it says only recommended for finches canaries and parakeets... but the diameter goes up to macaw size.

I just noticed that. I can't imagine any of those birds needing a perch 1 inch in diameter... I think I still might try them. Dakota isn't a big chewer anyways, and Ollie is very good about knowing what a "toy" is and focusing her destructive behaviors only on them. Of course if she showed any interest in chewing on the perch I'd remove it immediately.

A matter of hours Lance?? Yikes! I'd say they're definitely not appropriate for macaws!

Same here, Silk chew through wood like it was butter and I shudder to think of what would happen if her grey highness swallowed part of the latex. I just know my gang would rip them to shreds in a matter of minutes.

I have one for Echo and she loves it. One of the things I love is it's bendable yet will hold position. The one I have is also very easy to clean especially compared to the rope perches. I scrub mine off with hot water though I think it's dishwashable. I think the only thing I don't like about it is that after Echo takes a bath it can get a little slippery.
