Default The battle with Humidity!

The air gets so dry, so quick with the furnace running in the winter time here.

During the day I can get the levels up good. Between the humidifiers and cooking/baking I think we stay at comfortable levels. I run a warm mist humidifier and a regular one in the birds area during the day. (Gotta say I love the Honeywell Warm Mist Humidifier and plan to get a second one and only use the fan forced cool air one in the summer, if I need too.)

I turn the humidifiers off at night when the french doors are closed. In the morning the humidity is back down to 29/32%! This can't be good.

I'm wondering if I should run one of them on low during the night also. What do you do?

I have natural humidity.
I would run it at night though.

I was thinking the same thing. It's pretty good during the day, but at night.... I just might try tonight running one on low and see what happens.

Wanted to correct what I posted earlier. I don't have a warm mist one but a steam one;

Honeywell HWM450 Quick Steam 4.0 gallon warm moisture
humidifier

Quote:
Honeywell HWM450 Quick Steam Humidifier - - Honeywell® Quick Steam™ warm moisture humidifier reduces drying indoors by providing bacteria-free water vapor. Compact, space-saving design, 4.0 gallon water tank, and Easy Set digital controls conveniently deliver a more comfortable living environment.

Large water tank outputs 4 gallons of moist steam that is produced by a patented stainless-steel heater. Easy Set digital controls for speed, timer, and humidity. Humidistat maintains desired comfort level.

No filter needed! Low-maintenance design means that cleaning is a breeze, and there’s no expense for filter replacement. Large, easy-to-read illuminated display and three moisture output settings. Automatic shut-off for safety. Runs up to 24 hours on one filling, and is recommended for larger sized rooms (850-1400 square feet). Dimensions (approximate): 10.2"W x 14.5"L x 15.3"H; weighs 7 pounds. 3-year mfg. warranty.
I am absolutely loving this type to run in the winter here. The warm steam makes the room temperature very comfortable without having to keep the thermostat up higher. It costs about $50-55. You do need to purchase mineral pads that go on top of the SS heating element to help with mineral buildup. They run about $5 for a package of 6.

I clean this every other day and it’s a breeze. I put a little white vinegar on the SS heating plate and let it stand for a few minutes to remove mineral residue and rinse the mineral pad to extend it’s life and wash everything else. I have not had one bit of yucky buildup like you can get on regular humidifiers on this, only water/mineral buildup. I do add 3 drops of GSE to the water with each fill up.

I've been running a large (whole-house) console humidifier 24/7 since the beginning of December, and my electric bill show it! I can achieve 35 to 38 percent most of the time, but I worry about condensation in the walls and ceiling. 50 percent would be impossible; the walls would be dripping. Too much of a contrast between inside/outside temp.

OK, I have it all set to run on low tonight. We'll see if it's too much with the doors being shut. We'll compare notes in the morning Judy!

I'm good up to around 45% here. If I'm doing a lot of cooking plus running Humidifiers and start pushing 50 then it's too much.

My humidifier is set on auto for 35%. I can't get it any higher in the apartment unless I'm boiling on the stove or running a hot shower also. Just being set for 35% its constantly running, day and night.

My test of running the Humdifier on low for the night with the french doors closed to their room didn't fare well. The room is 11X24 and when I opened the doors this morning we had 61% humidity and I spent 30 minutes wiping down windows after I opened the shades and blinds.
