In NJ, you MUST have bands on your birds to show that they were domestically bred and not imported. It's the law. If he band is removed, you must have evidence of the removed band.

That's a good idea since, if, God forbid he flew away, you would have no means to identify him as being yours. That is probably one of the pros to banding.

Kathie, what do people have to do if they move to NJ with unbanded birds?

My two are not banded either. I would have had them removed if they were.

Only about half of our birds have bands, most are microchipped though.

I'm curious about this also...not that I'm EVER planning to move to NJ!

I bet a lot of paperwork, and maybe putting a band on them at that time?

I believe you have to keep the "cut" band for evidence. All birds must have a permit also. You have to pay the State a yearly fee of $20.00 to own them.

My birds have never had a band. I have no past documentation on them at all. New Jersey is not in my future, but I was curious what other people may have to go through if they had birds like mine and were transferred to NJ.

The only one of ours that has a band is Bud. When we got the tiels, they weren't banded & we got them from a shelter & I think they came in that way. Piper wasn't banded either & she's a rehome. I'd feel better if I could get them banded or chipped. Bud's never had a problem with her band at all....
