So, I was thinking today, all of my birds are banded except for my tiel. But Carmen is the only bird I've had since baby, so know where the band will lead. I dont know where the other guys bands would be traced back to god forbid something happened. Is there anyway to replace the bands or register the existing bands to my name somehow?

Also, Is there anyway to trace the bands they have to try to figure out exact hatchdates? I've been able to estimate that Papi turns 6 this month about, but I would love to figure out his exact date. All the store that origionally sold him was able to tell me was how old he was about when they got him and what month they got him in.

Who here microchips their birds? Is it an expensive thing to do and is it worth it instead of a band?

None of mind are banded, and if they were, I would have immediately had it removed. It's such a hazard. None of mine are microchipped either. I'm planning on having Ollie done eventually though. I don't think it is that expensive.

There are a few websites devoted to tracing bands out there. The thing is, including the bands on databases is totally voluntary, so there's no guarantee your bird's band will be in the database anywhere. Bob's isn't, that's for sure.

When you take your bird to an AV, doesn't s/he write the bird's band number on its paperwork? Mine does (I only have 2 birds with bands--Bob and Mikey). Ask them for a copy of that record, and keep it with you, should you ever need to prove ownership. If you have your AV remove a band, they should keep it with your bird's other paperwork.
