Kare, it would be nice if you can talk to the owners. The leg band should be removed by a vet before it causes serious injury.

I have been back there 4 times! No one around, no answer from the OPEN (as in in wide open, no screen door) doors to the house. I've been busy the past few days but I'll try to get there today.

It's such a shame, our NY animal law is terrible; food, water & shelter. So technically that plastic 2 quart bowl with a little water left in it, the plate with the sunflower seeds and peanuts and the piece of plywood that covers part of the top of the enclosure is all that's needed.

I think I would have to break the law to get them. Id just take them. But thats me.... Im starting to watch for these things myself. Last week we drove by a random pet store on our way to pick up tags for the new car. I was compelled to stop and check for birds. I think I would have hit the ceiling if that had big birds. Just a few tiels and a cage of budgies. Things werent too bad so I left quietly. But if I saw birds outside in a cage with no one around like that, Id be freaking out. I guess your in a tough spot Karen.

I agree it is a very tough spot, I too would be compelled to just grab and go. Here in Ontario though there are laws to protect larger birds, just not the little "disposable" ones like budgies and cockatiels.

Maybe you could leave a note? A long shot but maybe they really are daft and think they are doing good, some people abuse out of ignorance.
