Default Bad Pet Store Conditions

There is a pet store in my town that has birds in absolutely horrid conditions. I nearly cried when I saw them. Things growing in the water, 6 tiels forced to share 1 10 inch long dowel perch, a Jenday who's single dowel perch was so low to the grate that his tail curved and laid on the bottom. 10 budgies in 1 cage with 1 perch. No toys to speak of, and the trays hadn't been cleaned in several months. The poop was building up, and there were moth webs (from the seed) all over one of the sides of the cages. All birds were in either connecting or stacked cages. I'm just sick to my stomach thinking about it.

Who in my city do I go to to report this? I don't even have a clue.

OMG how horrible! I don't really know who you would report this too. Maybe animal control?

I would report any abuse or substandard conditions to your local animal shelter, humane society or bird adoption/rescue group.

What's really sick, is that our county humane society is in collaboration with this pet store. The pet store hosts some of the cats needing homes (who are kept in great conditions), and signs for the humane society are all over the store. They have to know the conditions the birds are in. It makes me so angry. I'll try animal control I guess. The name of the store is something like Manhattan Aquarium Co. The fish tanks are impeccably clean, the visiting cats are well cared for...I just can't figure out why nobody cares about the 15 or so birds they have in there.

Down here...Animal Control will not intervene when it comes to birds.(how sick is that?) As long as they have shelter water, food. I would also call the Better Business B. Chamber...Call anonymously and they will at least be aware and maybe go take a peek for themselves.

Tell me the name of the city and petshop.
These conditions should be reported to animal protection, if its a small town then we need to head for the closest large city with a animal abuse investigator.
Name of the city, name of the pet shop....then its a search issue.
Keeping a list (handy) of your vet, wildlife center, animal abuse center, any numbers you may need on short notice will always benefit you, one simply doesn't know when they will be needed...
Then to make sure this issue is investigated a cry for help is needed, matters not where you live, rally support, when I needed help I called just about every animal shelter, animal rescue, humane societies, and asked for help, including members here on PC, the more phone calls made to the investigator the better...this is what it takes to get action and help to those birds.
Believe me....this is what it takes.....there's members here that will help these birds if the proper phone number is posted, the more messages left for the investigator the faster they will respond...bottom line.
I live here in Minnesota...but my words will be heard by the animal abuse investigator near you....matters not where you are located...what matters is your message demanding an investigation....
The sooner we all begin to make the call...the sooner these birds are helped.

It's not only unhygenic for the birds, but think what kind of issues it'll be giving the other animals around them. All the other cages are clean except that one, I think it could effect the respitory systems in the other pets.

How to keep the pet shops thinking...
Print the following post I make and even signing it will not be needed, place in a plain envelope write urgent on the envelope and deliver to the petshop, matters not whom you hand it to, petshop owner, worker, mananger..
Then leave....this works wonders...I do it often...
Matters not if the pet shop is the cleanest best pet shop around...best to keep them all on there toes....
Hey....IT WORKS....thats what is importent...
Sooooo print it out...or make up your own....
