Dear Manager
Today I visited the animals in your shop.
I wanted to see if they were being cared for properly.
I looked to see how many animals were being kept in each cage and the size of the cage.
I looked to see if the cages were clean.
I looked to see if the water provided was clean and the animals were being fed well.
Basically I visited the animals to see if you were caring for them properly.
Sincerely

That is great Arty! I am going to use that regularly! There are several stores around here that need to be reminded!

Store Info:

Manhattan Aquarium Company and Water Garden Center
514 Pillsbury Dr.
Manhattan, KS 66502
(785)370-4004

Manhattan is not small, but over half the city population is college students. Some consider it a small town. Hays, KS is a few hours away from us, but there was an article in our school paper just a few days ago about a pet store being shut down for horrible conditions. That, at least, gives me a little hope that something could be done about this one.

I hope you're able to do something Arty. The closest big city to Manhattan is Topeka, KS. It's about 45 minutes away.

Arty, give me the number of the animal abuse investigator you contact if you find one, and I'll call as well. Post it here and hopefully we can get others to call as well. I took a few photos of these birds, I'll post them later.

Where would I look in the phonebook for the Better Business Bureau Susan? It's not under Business or Bureau in the yellow pages. I'm not very phone book savvy...

I get upset when I see these things too Camille. Maybe they just need some education. Odd enough, many pet stores dont understand what is required to keep the birds healthy. Maybe you could talk to them and offer some advice in a nice sweet way. Ill bet if you go in and smile, tell them you keep birds and would like to offer some advice to them, they just might receive you well.

This is interesting, this place of buisness is apparently affiliated with the humane society as they don't have a (shelter) type facility there, all neglected animals are under foster care and this Pet shop Camille speaks of is one of the foster places...fun fun fun..huh?
I made my phone call...and sent out an e-mail....your turn...
