Does anyone know where I could buy pieces of wood that would be safe?? Is it possibly to buy it in a craft store?? What kind of wood is safe??

That link Suz provided is what you should go by. As for buying in craft stores, don't buy anything that has been treated.

Having a house full of cockatoos allows me to go through a LOT of wood. We just go to Home Depot and buy 2x4's and cut them into chunks. My flock prefers wood at the bottom of their cages over toys hanging in the cages.

I do the same for the macaws...untreated pine 2x4's. I even ask them to cut it into 4 inch pieces, I drill holes in the chunks when i get them home so they can be incorporated into hanging links, etc.

I just remembered what else Jerry does. Where there is new construction going on near us (believe me there is a ton) we go and ask the builder to set aside the wood that we can use, and we go pick it up and cut it.

Nancy - look through the book I gave you. It should outline the bad woods versus the good woods. Let me know if you think it is lacking so I can amend it to add anything beneficial, okay?

Thanks Kathie. I will do. I did read it when you gave it to me. I forgot that the wood was mentioned in there.
