Unhappy Argh, this wait is depressing me!

I just spoke with breeder. Baby is starting to perch and play with toys and real food this week, but he is still on 5 feedings a day! Yikes! I am so discouraged. Maybe 5 is right for his age (9 weeks) but I thought he'd be down to 3. I am glad she abundance weans as I do want a happy, well adjusted baby. Thanks for letting me vent all.

Yip 5 feeds is good means she is not rushing him. It can go down quickly once the baby starts to eat. Don't be discouraged. Good non lazy breeder.

I know, the wait is agonizing! But its far better to have a breeder who isn't willing to rush the baby, and abundance weaning is the best way to go. Before you know it, the little one will be home with you and it will have been worth all the wait.

Ollie was on 5 feedings when I got her at 8.5 weeks. 9 weeks is still very young! As he gets older and starts to play with food, and then actually eat some of it, the formula feedings will go down fast.

She is probably giving five smaller feedings five times a day as opposed to three larger feedings. Don't fret. It is worth the wait for a lifetime of love and companionship.

I can relate to the wait. My breeder told me My Ollie would be weaned around may, but she told me this past Saturday that it looks like it will be some time in June. He is down to two feedings a day and is chomping on his pellets and cooked food. I think he is swallowing some of the food because his poop this past visit had some green in it, where all the other times it has only been that brown formula color.

I feel your pain I realy do...

My Einstein was abundance weaned and he was ready to come home at 16 weeks. I still continue to give him one hand feeding a day before bedtime. I use Scenic hand weaning pellets. That is what the breeder used in addition to formula. He of course was eating all on his own when he came home but using hte hand weaning pellets helped me to feel comfortable that he was getting enough. I will probably always give him his hand feeding every day before bed just because we both love that special time! The wait is worth it! Look at it as less work you have to do to have the baby be well adjusted. It is so important that things go on their schedule, not ours!

Sprry to ramble!

Aren't they the greatest????? We are starting to use them at the store. I just love them! It's also a great way for birds to go home sooner since there is really no way of aspirating.

Kathie, would you explain about the Scenic hand weaning pellets? I am assuming they're not a regular pellet.
